English School (c.1830), an oval watercolour on ivory portrait miniature of a young girl, with short blonde hair with single curl, oval neckline black dress with lace trim and blue ribbons to the shoulders, 4.8 x 3.8cm., in a rolled gold pierced scrollwork frame with brooch back. * Condition: Inside face of glass dirty. Darkened line to paint to left, top and bottom edge of oval, possibly due to reaction with mount. Right hand side of oval has some rubbing to background colour and a patch of paint residue to inside of glass - possibly due to water ingress at some point. Some fine craquelure to black paint on dress visible through a lens. Frame in good condition.

Lot 451

A fine 19th century Chinese export Canton carved ivory table casket, the exterior profusely carved in deep relief with figures engaged in both work and leisurely pursuits, some on horseback and some in boats, amidst landscapes with pagodas and other buildings and trees including prunus, palm, fir and weeping willow, the borders carved with foliage, flowers, fruit and birds, the hinged lid opening to reveal and interior with single tray with hinged whitemetal handles, lacks divisions, the exterior sides with whitemetal floral and foliate cast swing handles, raised on four hairy paw feet, 9½ x 5¾in. (24 x 14.5cm.), 4in. (10cm.) high. * Condition: Interior tray lacks dividers. Traces of old glue along one side of tray from old repair. Three feet glued in place (later - originally secured with ivory pins) and the fourth foot (at the rear left corner) is a little loose and has a chip at one end. The carved exterior appears to be free from any damage whatsoever - no chips or cracks. Good condition overall, with a nice colour and patina to the ivory.

Lot 482

A Chinese Canton carved ivory bracelet, 1920s-30s, the seven ovals deeply carved with figures in landscapes, joined by white metal chain links and clasp, 7½in. (19cm.) long, each oval 1 x ¾in. (2.5 x 1.9cm.).

Lot 146

A Victorian embossed silver card case, Henry Matthews, Chester 1899, the front with rustic scene of two young ladies and a lute player, the reverse with raised rococo scrolls surrounding a parkland scene with peacocks, lined with watered silk and with an ivory leaf for notes, 4 x 3in. (10 x 7.5cm.), gross weight 3.5 tr.oz. * Condition: Some loss to fine detail through polishing. Closes crisply. Marks slightly rubbed but still legible. Some water staining to green silk interior and edges of leather borders slightly worn, but overall good. Ivory leaf discoloured to ends but has no splits or other damage.

Lot 4

A 19th century English botanical part dessert service, possibly Rockingham, comprising a large tazza with twin foliate strap handles, 7.75in. (19.75cm.) high; two oval dishes with twin pierced foliate handles, 11.75in. (30cm.) long; three dishes with single pierced foliate handle, 10in. (25.5cm.) long; and twelve 9.5in. (24cm.) plates, all hand painted with garden flowers within pale grey and ivory foliate and cell diaper borders, painted pattern no. '256' to all but one dish, one with painted no. '8170'. (18) * Condition: All have some gilt wear to gilt tendrils around edges of white reserve and on gilt rims. A few small scratches and scuffs to painted decoration, but decoration good overall. Tazza - both handles with old wire wrapped repairs. Patch of brown discolouration to centre of well. Twin foliate handled dishes - the example marked 8170 with small crack to one handle. Otherwise good. The other broken with old stapled repair and large crack around base. Three single handled dishes - two good. The third with firing crack to foot rim. Plates - all in good condition with no chips or cracks.

Lot 453

A Chinese Canton carved ivory card case, early to mid-19th century, rectangular with rounded corners, deeply and finely carved throughout with figures amidst buildings and trees, a boat to one side, the other with oval cartouche engraved with initials 'HA', the top with two coiled dragons, 3¼ x 1¾in. (8.2 x 4.5cm.), minor losses. * Condition: Tiny chip to one of dragon's scales at one end of top. Otherwise good, with no further damage or repairs.

A collection of silver flatware with ivory handles, Robert Pringle & Sons, Sheffield, 1911, comprising a fish serving fork, six fish knives and five fish forks, together with various other silver spoons, gross weight 25.4 tr.oz. (17) * Condition: In very good condition, with no damage on ivory handles. Marks good.
