A Victorian Oriental black lacquer sewing box gilded and decorated with numerous figures, mythical creatures, flowers and foliage, standing on small feet fashioned as Dogs of Foo, brass handles to either side. Two interior compartments containing carved ivory pieces to include bobbins, needles, a bookmark, carved clamps for fabric, various silks and threads etc. Lower base drawer with pull out writing slope, ink bottle with white metal lid and a feather quill pen, 15 x 36cm. CONDITION REPORT General wear to the gilding which has worn away completely in some areas.
A 19th century Indian Bombay School work box, of rectangular domed form, the cedar wood exterior heavily carved with flowers with an ivory inlay, hinging to reveal a fitted interior set with various jars, bottles and lidded sections, with a mirrored back, the whole presented with exterior metal carrying handles, (when closed) 33cm wide x 24cm deep x 15cm high. An early 18th century Highland broadsword, blade 31½”, with twin central fullers marked “x Clemens x Brach x” in each fuller on one side and “xx In x Solingen xx” on the other, iron basket guard, the 5 panels pierced with hearts and circles, with a little line engraving, prominent rolled “T” shaped quillon, domed pommel, ivory grip (wire missing, 2 minor cracks), in its brown leather covered scabbard, the iron locket with 2 rings and cut out trefoil device, the shoe with cut out stylized fleur de lys to top, and 3 stud tip. GC for age (contemporary repair to quillon, hilt a little misshapen). Plate 7
A good late 19th century continental poignard, heavy, polished, hollow ground, hexagonal section blade 5¾”, upswept crossguard, the lower edges scalloped, flattened writhen ivory grip (3 very minor cracks) with upswept pommel matching the crossguard, in its plated sheath, shaped to fit the blade, with single ring. GC, retaining much original finish (blade tip pitted). Plate 8
