An 18th century carved ivory and painted paper fan, the sticks finely carved, the guard sticks with mother of pearl backing and carved with a Chinese figure beneath a pagoda above carved floral decoration, the paper fan with three hand painted cartouches and decorated with gold foil and sequins, together with card fan case labelled 'Clark Fan maker, No. 45 Ludgate Hill', approx 29.5cm. Note Mrs Clark of Ludgate Hill was a prominent fan maker and is immortalised in an etching by John Nixon 'Mrs Clark, Fan Maker, Ludgate Hill' CONDITION REPORT: Good overall condition, no breaks or repairs noted.
