Roestraten visted England during the reign of Charles II. It is thought that Sir Peter Lely introduced him to the King. While in England, Roestraten moved away from the peasant genre scenes of his early career and, instead, developed a new style of still-life often including precious china, silver, ivory and lacquerware in his works.
