HUNG CHONG; a late 19th/early 20th century Chinese Export silver three piece tea set comprising teapot of squat baluster form, elaborately embossed with chrysanthemums, with bamboo effect handle, finial and spout, set with with ivory insulators and bakelite foot rim, length 24cm, milk jug and lidded sugar bowl, Canton or Shanghai, combined approx 36.3ozt (3). CONDITION REPORT: Due to the ivory insulators we are unable to ship this lot outside of the EU. Teapot: the lid hinge is slightly loose and a later glued foot rim. Minor surface wear throughout the lot.
A 19th century mahogany marine stick barometer inscribed 'Whitehall Newport', with brass gimballed support, thermometer to the body and brass bob base, height 93cm. CONDITION REPORT: Staining to ivory scale, thermometer replaced, brass bob probably replaced, general surface wear, dents and scratches.
A late 19th century Anglo-Indian sandalwood and ivory banded pen work decorated games counter box, containing rectangular and circular counters, width 10.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: The ivory brackets missing, tow more are damaged. There is a small area of loss to the floral detail on the lid and a very thin section missing to the underside of the lid. General wear throughout.
A 19th century carved ivory figure of a cherub holding aloft the Epistle of Paul to the Colossians 2:14, raised on rectangular teak plinth, height 14cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is a repair to the left foot, repairs to protrudements from sash, thumb is missing, wings are missing and there is a small plugged hole to the top of the scroll. Height not including the base is 12cm.
A Finely Decorated Silver & Ivory Sector, c.1700, Anglo-French, very unusual instrument, scales following the English pattern and scales in English, including latitude and hours scales for setting out sundials, silver arch hinge and arm ends with decoration in typical French fashion, unusually the sector opens out to 12 French inches, with other scales giving Inglish (sic) Amsterdam and Rhynland inches, possibly made to order for an English person resident in France
A Complete Set of Sprung Dentures in Gold & Porcelain, mid 19th Century, complete upper and lower plates, upper plate, posts, springs and fittings in gold, teeth in porcelain,the lower plate of gutta-percha, or possibly Vulcanite, makers mark to the gold Note: Gutta-percha is recorded as being used for dentures in the UK in 1847; Vulcanite, developed in the early 1840's, was also adopted for dentures around this time. The design and structure of these dentures is much the same as the Duke of Wellington's sprung false teeth in gold and ivory, on display at Apsley House, but here using porcelain rather than human teeth, and gutta-percha providing greater comfort than carved ivory.
