DEMETRE CHIPARUS (1888-1950), CHILD WITH UMBRELLA, A GILT BRONZE AND IVORY FIGURE, the face and hands in ivory, signed to the umbrella and with foundry mark Etling, Paris, mounted on an octagonal alabaster base. Overall 22cmTwo umbrella points bent. Rubbing/wear to green on the points of the umbrella. Some wear to gilding.

Overall 20cmHairline crack to ivory to the left of her face. Some very minor wear to the gilding. To the underside of the base, a small area may have been repaired.
A LARGE VICTORIAN "REFORMED GOTHIC" EBONY AND IVORY INLAID OAK DRESSING MIRROR, IN THE MANNER OF CHARLES BEVAN, the cornice with balustrade pediment, the surround inlaid with ivory flowerheads with red dot centres, to each top corner an inlaid eight-pointed star within a roundel, supported on palmette topped supports carved with a boss, the brass clips stamped Cope & Austin Patent, all raised on a moulded and stepped rectangular platform base, unsigned. 98cm high, base 81.5cm wideSmall scuff to front of plinth. In original condition without repair. The mirror (not bevelled) holds various positions. Structurally very sturdy and finished at the back. In generally good condition commensurate with age.

Group of 1930's-1950's Housecoats, comprising a raspberry sateen type example patterned with bouquets, gathered patch pockets and waist tie; a purple velvet example, gathered upturned cuffs and deep collar, with looped fringe; a purple and copper iridescent example with pink piping to collar; a jade green satin type example patterned with ivory fruits and cranes, with ribboned frog fasteners; a dark cream linen example, the reverse embroidered with a large dragon; a double breasted lavender floral linen example patterned with large pink, green and brown flower heads; a white cotton collared example, printed with black dots and strawberries upon blue checks, with attached waist tie (7) . Raspberry example - ok overall. Purple - some small stains and overall wear. Copper and purple - some light wear. Jade green - one of the fasteners requires reattaching, some fading in places, small black stain to reverse. Dark cream linen - some thread pulls and wear, to fluffing and wear to dragon. Lavender floral - some light staining and wear, numerous sporadic brown stains to reverse (each the size of a thumb nail). White cotton - some wear overall.

WW1 British miniature portrait on ivory in a silver framed mount hallmarked London 1918 depicting Captain William Michael Victor Banbury of the Connaught Rangers. Size approx 75mm x 60mm. Capt Banbury was killed in action 17 August 1917. Born in 1885 and educated at Eton, and was gazetted to the Regiment on 23rd May 1906, and joined the 4th Battalion then in Malta. He became Lieutenant on 24th March 1910 and resigned his commission on 23rd November 1912 going on the reserve of officers. Upon the war breaking out he was, on September 14th made a Temporary Captain in the 11th (Service) Battalion then forming. He went to France with his Battalion in the summer of 1915, and on August 17th 1917 when advancing with his Company under a very heavy shell fire, he tried to place a wounded Rifleman under cover and whilst doing so was struck by a shell and killed instantly. His Commanding Officer wrote: "He did splendidly on July 31st....... The success we gained on the 31st was largely due to his gallant leading." He appeared in a number of London plays as a boy was the Grandson of Admiral Sir William King-Hall.
Conundrums: Two fans, comprising a unique 18th century ivory fan, the gorge carved and pierced, the upper guards overlaid with slivers of pale pink/green mother of pearl, perhaps burgau, and edged with piqué work. The recto, in cream, is painted with a colourful bird and a spray of flowers, in strong blue, reds and green, with writing e.g. (''Why is a man in love like a lobster?'', and '' why is an old woman that cannot do anything like a young woman who can do everything?'') and a section of script to either side. Centre top, ''an occasional monologue spoken by Mr Garrick the last time of his performing towards increasing a fund for the relief of those who from their infirmities shall be obliged to retire from the stage''. To the left of the bird, ''Dr Doctor, Doctor Doctor''. Further ''A veteran seer! whose last act on the stage intreats your smiles for sickness and for age......''. A reference to Shakespeare. An apparent signature, in ink as seems the writing, ''Yours Zepper(?) Gallery''. The verso is likewise covered with conundrums to each side of the drawing. Guard length 11 inches or 28cm. T/w a light and airy French mid-18th century fan, tiny gold sequins bordering a central cartouche and two side vignettes, the focus being on a pretty lady in pink 18th century costume receiving flowers from her beau, the latter dressed in breeches and a long blue coat. The reserves are painted with butterflies, white doves, and a profusion of floral attributes and swags. The verso is plain. Guard length 11 inches or 28cm (2). The first fan is in good order and clean. Fan 2 has suffered, with splitting to the leaf (but just holding). Slight soiling.
