A good and large mid-19th century Chinese carved and stained ivory chess set with intricate detail throughout, the figures with elaborately detailed robes and accessories, the rooks modelled as elephants carrying turrets, all on octagonal foliate carved bases, height of king approx 20cm.Additional InformationOverall the set has survived in excellent condition considering the age and fragility of the material. The stained king has some small chips to his headgear, some of the weapons and accessories have been re-glued to the hands. There are some chips and nibbles to the other pieces particularly to the headgear of the pawns, some rubbing to the staining on the raised surfaces hands, handles, noses etc. The turrets on top of the elephants, three of the four have been re-glued to their bases but without apparent damage, more the natural degrading of the original binding agent. The stained elephant in particular has rubbing to the extremities and some surface abrasions. Some minor splits to the pierced work on the lower section of the white king, the upper section of the sceptre held by the red king has been reattached to the hand but without apparent damage. Some of the red or stained pawns with minor chips or nibbles to the hem of the robes.  For other detail please refer to the illustrations provided. There are 49 images online, this information is more than enough to determine size.

A 19th century Chinese carved ivory card case featuring figures in a garden setting within vase outline to both sides, with further foliate scrolls throughout and applied white metal mounts to shoulders, 11 x 7.5cm, and a circa 1900 Anglo-Indian Vizagapatam style ivory and micromosaic example (2).Additional InformationThe first case with some hairlines, splits, chips and losses, a crack to the sleeve of the interior. The second case with further condition issues, splits to ivory on both sides, further heavy wear and tear. Will need attention.

A late 19th century Chinese Export carved ivory brisé fan, the outer sticks featuring well carved decoration of buildings within rural setting, the interior sticks finely pierced and featuring further detail of birds amongst branches, length 27.4cm.Additional InformationInternal sticks with some relatively minor breakages to the fine pierced work, outer sticks with some buildup of dirt and perhaps some tiny losses, but overall in good condition considering the fragility of the material.

One with small holes to lower section, where there has been damage. 18TH CENTURY TOKYO SCHOOL; a carved ivory okimono depicting a religious procession with mythical beast pulling a cart ferrying gods, two character signature to inset red plaque, the base with further carved chrysanthemum, height 10cm.Additional InformationSome apparent natural hairlines in the ivory, some small splits. There is also a hole to the centre of the chrysanthemum carving on the base indicating that it was possibly mounted on something at some time. There may be some minor damage and loses but due to the intricacies of the carving it is quite difficult to tell. In general potential buyers advised to refer to illustrations and request additional if necessary..

A small Chinese Yixing teapot with six character seal mark to base, length 12.5cm (lid af), a small Eastern carved ivory figure, a small bone circular dish engraved with flowers and two sections of carved bone with floral detail (5).Additional InformationSeveral small chips. Figure with damage and loss (af), wear and tear throughout. Regarding the teapot, there is a minute underside chip to the spout, general surface wear commensurate with age, again there are two minute under-rim chips to the lid, general surface wear. Height of man 7cm. Teapot with two very small chips to lid exterior, some small nibbles to spout and further general, light surface scuffs and scrapes commensurate with use.

Case - Generally in good condition with no obvious signs of damage or repair. A little wear to the felt interior. Lacking the key. The case houses a complete set with no empty spaces.
