A Chinese lady's red ground informal front opening coat, the body profusely embroidered with the Peking knot depicting phoenix, peony's and hanging, flowering fruits, the collar, base, and side with turquoise ground panels embroidered with metallic and polychrome threads, the long sleeves terminating with ivory ground embroidered cuffs, later alterations apparent throughout, 96cm long CR: The red ground and polychrome threads appear to have retained their colour and look particularly vibrant. It is clear that the body of the garment has been professionally reworked/taken in. The errors to the collar show some perishing and the turquoise ground surrounding the neck has noticeable areas of red staining. There are loose threads to the embroidery throughout, however this is not immediately noticeable overall. There is a small split to the reign shoulder of the garment which wound require restitching, approximately 2 inches.

Serial number 5016 with ivory dial with brass fretwork around the dial. Roman numerals, doves and roses decorate the dial with 'John Mason Paris' on dial. Contained in a brass case with reeded pillars to corners and bevelled glass panels. Dimensions: 7" (top handle) x 3½" x 3". Condition report: Good condition.
