A FLORENTINE SILKWORK COPE worked with scrolling branches of flowers and foliage, on a silvery grey and ivory ground, possibly circa 1680, 119" x 54.5", now mounted on a folding hardwood board to facilitate wall display. See illustration Provenance: Acquired from The Reverend Anthony Howland in October 1976. This cope was a parting gift to the Reverend Howland from his parishioners in Boston, Massachusetts, USA upon his retirement when he returned to England after thirty years as their parish priest.
