A 19th century Anglo-Indian Vizagapatam and ivory inlaid counter box with ivory counters 10cms across There are additional photographs uploaded - no damage to box itself, small areas of bone/ivory inlay missing -small piece missing to very front of lid, corner left hand piece, and very top right hand piece to lid.
ENGLISH SCHOOL, EARLY 19TH CENTURY A FAMILY GROUP OF FIVE MINIATURES OF MEMBERS OF THE O'HARA AND TAYLOR FAMILIES OF IRELAND comprising (clockwise from top left) William O'Hara of Caher House, Feakle, Co Clare (who married Frances Taylor); General Sir John Taylor, KCB (1771-1843) of Castle Taylor, Co Galway (who married in 1784 Alinia Jane Jefferyes); Power Le Poer Trench, Archbishop of Tuam (1770-1839) (who married his cousin Anne Taylor, daughter of Walter Taylor of Castle Taylor, Co Galway; an unknown lady and Elizabeth O'Hara, ivory, 10 x 8cm and c, gilt brass mounts, in maroon velvet lined mahogany box frame, four of the sitters identified on old labels on the backboard ++Miniature of Gen Taylor cracked; that of Elizabeth O'H\ara with small rubbed area upper right. AN ENGLISH ROSEWOOD 7 FOOT GRAND PIANO BY T TOMKISON, NO 1588, C1835 the nameboard inscribed PATENT Thos Tomkison Dean Street Soho maker to His Majesty, on reeded tapering turned legs with brass castors, brass lock shooting three bolts, stamped TURNER Provenance: (By repute) a female acquaintance of David Lloyd George, OM, PC (1863-1945) The Prime Minster is said to have played the piano when he visited. Thomas Tomkison (d 1853) traded from 55-57 Dean Street, Soho from 1799 until 1851. He enjoyed royal patronage, supplying the Prince Regent (later George IV) with several instruments, including a very fine ormolu mounted and brass inlaid grand piano for Brighton Pavilion, c1821. The lyre pedal frame of that piano is identical to that of the present example. ++In dusty but basically complete and entirely original condition, two of the ivory keys snapped
