Mid 19th Century Anglo-Ceylonise Coromandel work box of rectangular forum with scalloped edges. The lockable lid (key present) on brass hinges, opening to reveal its underside profusely inlaid with ivory dyed and engraved to depict an elephant within a garland of flowers, surrounded by images of birds and flanked by two male figures. Heavy weight weave with a soft handle. Good wool with natural dyes. Selvedges and fringes intact and professionally secured. One end with slight wear and tracery blue frame border loss. Lies flat. No labels. Slight colour bleed to back but not visible to front.
