A collection of six 20th Century portrait miniatures in the Italian style, housed in ivory piano key frames, depicting various figures to include Josephine, Lady Sheffield, etc CONDITION REPORTS The frames on this lot are indeed real ivory. In all likelihood re-used piano keys as is the practice in the early to mid 20th Century in Italy for this type of miniature.
JOSHUA TREWINNARD "John Bygrave", a silhouette study, head and shoulders, oval, bears old label verso, together with 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Young gentleman in blue coat and white stock", a miniature portrait study, oil on ivory, unsigned together with another portrait study of a woman with hair in ringlets, oval on paper, inscribed verso "Grandmama cut by Mr Hayter Senr when at Boxted Hall Mrs Bygrave" 9 x 7 cm and another of a young man in profile, watercolour on paper 11 x 8.5 cm in canted rosewood frame. CONDITION REPORTS N.B. together with another portrait study of a woman with hair in ringlets, oval on paper, inscribed verso "Grandmama cut by Mr Hayter Senr when at Boxted Hall Mrs Bygrave" 9 x 7 cm and another of a young man in profile, watercolour on paper 11 x 8.5 cm in canted rosewood frame. Condition: John Bygrave paper discoloured, otherwise good condition. Paper label verso with damage at edges - see image. Young man in blue coat has split to the ivory vertically down to his chin but either not too serious or well repaired as only just visible with the naked eye. Ivory slightly warped to the right hand side, gilt slip with damage and tape - again see image. Frame with some crackling to the lacquerwork. Mrs Bygrave again paper discoloured and with some marking on the left hand side to the paper - see images for further detail. Gentleman in rosewood frame with some discolouration to the paper i.e. slight browning but otherwise in good condition. Frame with some chipping to the slip and some loss to the actual frame
A Regency mahogany toilet mirror, the rectangular plate on reeded supports to a rosewood and crossbanded satinwood strung three drawer bow fronted base on bracket feet, 57.3 cm wide x 57 cm high and a 19th Century mahogany two tier whatnot, each tier with a single drawer and pressed brass handle raised on turned legs to brass caps and castors, 46 cm wide x 46 cm deep x 77.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Toilet mirror - foot off but present. Various areas missing including to the escutcheon. Looks like the ivory handles have been off. Very discoloured to the top. Damage to the mirror plate. See images for more details. In need of some tlc. The whatnot - one finial is off but present although is a darker colour to the other three. Surface scratching, water marks, etc. Knocks, bumps, etc, throughout. Has been "used". There is a split to the lower tier at the back right hand corner. Wear and tear conducive with age and use. Both items in need of tlc. See images for more details.

A Japanese bronze figure of Prince Shotoku, holding a temple incense burner by Ishikawa Mitsuaki (1852 - 1913), seal mark, inscribed wood box. Ishikawa Mitsuaki studied Kano School painting and sculpture under his father, a wood carver who worked for the Shogunate. He created various carved interior decorations at the Imperial Palace, and received many prizes in international and domestic exhibitions with works in ivory and wood. He was hired by the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1890, and was appointed Imperial Artist the same year. His Kannon Bosatsu wooden relief, exhibited in the 1900 Paris International Exhibition are two of his finest pieces, both receiving prizes. He remained a professor of the Tokyo Fine Arts School until his death in 1913.
Royal Worcester blush ivory pot pourri vase and cover, overall decorated with gilt work and floral sprays. Printed puce marks to the base, shape no. 1813. 25cm high approx. (B.P. 21% + VAT) Little bit grubby, minor nick to the underside of the lid. Otherwise appearing ok overall with no obvious damage.
