A good Japanese Shibayama inlaid ivory two-fold table screen (Tsuitate), Meiji period, inlaid in ivory, red lacquer and mother-of-pearl with three seated figures in conversation with a nobleman, being entertained by a dancer and musician, before a vase of prunus blossom and a hanging vase filled with flowers, above a smaller panel of flowers and a fan on a kinji lacquer ground, the reverse decorated with birds and flowers against a roiro ground sprinkled with nashiji, signed Masa.... on a mother-of pearl reserve, 37.5cm. high by 37.5cm. wide unfolded. A Japanese four-case gold lacquer inro, Meiji period, decorated in low relief with birds amongst sheaves of wheat, 7.5cm. high, with an iron ojime and an ivory netsuke carved as a toad on a root vegetable, 7.25cm. length; also an ivory netsuke of a seated monkey looking at a monkey netsuke attached to an inro, 3.5cm. high.

A small mahogany cased two-day marine chronometerBy Parkinson & Frodsham, London, No. 768, circa 1825The case with plain hinged cover, above glazed lid, the front inset with a rectangular ivory panel, above shaped lock escutcheon and a brass carrying handle to each side, lacquered brass bowl, gimbals and locking lever, with 'tipsy' key stamped '768', the bezel with a convex glass above the 3in. silvered brass dial, signed below the XII 'PARKINSON & FRODSHAM / Change Alley /London No. 768', with Roman chapters and Arabic five-minute markers, blued steel hands and seconds subsidiary, the signed chain fusée movement with cylindrical ring-turned pillars, bi-metallic compensated balance with diamond endpiece, blued steel hairspring, Earnshaw spring detent escapement, internal brass sprung dust cover, (1 key and 1 case key)15.2cm. x 16cm. IllustratedParkinson & Frodsham was established in 1801 by William James Frodsham (1778-1850) and William Parkinson (d.1842). Their business continued throughout the 19th century at Change Alley, supplying chronometers to the Admiralty and to shipping lines. Very little of their records survive, although there are some late 19th century records from the firm at the Guildhall Library, London.In Phillip Arnott's article Chronometers on East India Company Ships 1800-33, the Company is recorded as having Parkinson & Frodsham No. 771, which was in use by Captain Graham on Caledonia in 1822, see Antiquarian Horological Journal, Vol. 30, No. 4, December 2007, p. 481-500.
