A fine quality DB 12 bore percussion sporting gun by R Ancell of Perth, 46” overall, well rebrowned twist barrels 29”, the top rib engraved in gothic script “R. Ancell, George Street, Perth”, the breech tang engraved with scrolls and vignette of a partridge in undergrowth, the signed back action locks finely engraved with beaded borders and scenes of pheasants and lapwings in a heathland setting, the unusual long nosed hammers in the form of winged serpents, the dark walnut halfstock having chequered wrist (worn), with steel mounts including trigger guard engraved with capercaillie, and butt plate tang with heron in reeds, the original brass mounted ramrod having concealed worm.
