A ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY MEDAL & GT WAR PAIR. A 1920 award Bronze Royal Humane Society Medal named to Rev H M McL Piercy. British War & Victory Medals named to 116554 Pte H M Piercy R A M C. After service in the Royal Army Medical Corps in WW1, the Reverend Horace Melville McLeod Piercy MA. BA. was serving in Worth Mattravers near Swanage. The disaster of the Treveal on the 9th-10th January off the coast of Dorset, ended in himself and Frank Lander being awarded the RHS Bronze medal. With various copies of the disaster and unnecessary loss of life, after the Captain apparently panicked and ordered the ship evacuated. No lives had been lost until they attempted to row ashore, in the ships boats. All the crew started rowing to Chapmans Pool, when the boats were swamped and without the Reverend Piercy's timely and courageous actions, all would likely have been lost. Many publications over the years have featured the loss of the Cornish owned ship, on its maiden voyage. Many original letters from survivors and families regarding the disaster, are with this lot. A copy of the Reverend Piercy's articles regarding the rescues and losses, is also with this lot. A copper box of the Newlyn type, is also with the lot.

Khartoum. Fox (Major W. R., R.A.), Map of the Nile Provinces from the third cataract (Hannek) to Khartum [and] Map of the Nile provinces from the railway terminus at Siut to Berber, published The Intelligence Branch, The War Office, September and April 1884 respectively, two lithographic maps with contemporary outline colouring, laid on linen, the first with an inset map of Khartoum and its environs, the second with an inset map of Egypt, Nubia and the Egyptian Sudan, some dust soiling, both with marginal silk tape partially lacking, 610 x 850 mm and 1050 x 670 mm respectively, ink manuscript titles to verso (2)

A map of an estate situate at Oreton in the County of Salop, the property of Mr Thomas Pardoe, survey'd by Joseph Powell, pen and ink on vellum, decorative cartouche with vignette en grisaille, some dust-soiling, heaviest to left margin, 41 x 50cm, together with five further distressed manuscript estate plans on paper, all linen-backed with wooden battens, one of Aston Manor, reduced, 1761, three of Erdington and one of the Manor of Castlebromwich, all dust-soiled and with tears and splits, various sizes, plus a later manuscript plan on paper of the property in the township of Wednesfield, surveyed by R. Quartermaster's map. Hollar (Wenceslaus), The Bishop=Ricke of Durham and Cumberland, Westmoreland, York=Shire, Lancast=Shire, and Parte of Linconshire, circa 1644, engraved map with contemporary outline colouring, old folds, strengthened and repaired on verso, slight dust soiling, 395 x 510 mm Hollar was employed by Thomas Jenner to etch a six sheet map of England and Wales, based on Christopher Saxton's wall map. The map was designed to be 'Useful for all Comanders for Quarteringe of Souldiers & all sorts of Persons that would be informed, where the Armies be; never so commodiously drawne before this, The set of maps was designed for utilitarian use, and therefore are often found in a 'used' condition.The maps were re-printed three times between 1644 and 1688, This early edition does not show any roads but has a naive compass indicator at the mouth of the River Humber.
