RICHARD WAGNER (1813 - 1883). A hand written letter to the conductor Hans Richter, signed and dated "Bayreuth 9th October 79", written in violet ink, two sides with envelope. Extracts from the letter read: "Dear Richter, I know nothing at all of Naples and a "lohengrin" there and - wouldn't really trouble myself about it, as i have even less desire to hear of my opera performances there than the ones here in quiet Bayreuth! However, it will be a pleasure if Mr Candidus wishes to call on me .... Jager has had proposals for repetitions of "Gotterdammerung": there is something in the works. Let him sing Siegmund for once: it will be better! But what is the name of the cafe on the corner at Karthnertor? - ugh! ... But now an end to all the talking, and come visit us for once - you've shilly shallied for long enough! ... Your obedient servant, R Wagner "
