A Charles II silver porringer and cover, decorated in punchwork and chased in high relief with flowers and foliage around a vacant cartouche, cast caryatid handles, 15cm h, marked on underside and lip of cover, maker S R, a cinquefoil below, London 1665, 20ozs 17dwts Good condition, no splits or repairs, some polish residue and light wear. The chased detail crisp, not trimmed or soldered, no holes, marks well spaced and struck. Long in the present private family ownership

Dame Laura Knight DBE, RA, RWS (1877-1970) - A Darkie Dance 1927, signed and inscribed, charcoal, 35.5 x 26cm This drawing is recorded in the catalogue Dame Laura Knight's Drawings currently in preparation by R John Crofts FCA, ref D 0405. Exhibited: Nottingham, Castle Museum & Art Gallery, April 1989 and subsequently at Bristol, Cartwright Hall, Bradford and Plymouth and Wolverhampton Art Galleries. Drawn in 1927 when the artist joined her husband who was then undertaking portrait commissions in Baltimore, whilst staying with their orthopaedic consultant friend, Dr William S Baer of Johns Hopkins University. Dr Baer (Billy) and his wife were well known breeders of Chows in the United States and had kennels for 40 of the dogs. See the artist's autobiography "Oil Paint and Grease Paint", p.287 A few light old stains, including one from a drawing pin once in the extreme upper left corner, also approx. 2mm closed tear extreme lower centre. Unexamined out of frame
