Various English porcelain teawares, all decorated with exotic birds sitting on branches, 1st half 19th century, damages. Comprising: an H & R Daniel part tea service (teapot and cover, sugar bowl and cover, three cups and six saucers), a matched slop bowl, a Boyle trio and a spill vase. (18)
Irish interest: a porcelain plate painted with the arms for the city of Cork, including the motto 'Statio Bene Fida Carinis' (a safe harbour for ships), the name 'G R Pain' scratched into the enamel, c.1830, minor faults, 23.2cm. 'G R Pain' probably relates to George Richard Pain, one of two brothers responsible for the rebuilding of Blackrock Castle following its destruction by fire in 1827.
A pair of faience albarelli, painted in polychrome with a cartouche beneath a blue tasselled bow, one titled 'R. Zinziber', the other 'R. Turbith', the shoulders with a border of fruit and leaves, 19th century, glaze wear and minor chipping, 26cm. (2) R. Zinziber (root ginger) was used to settle the stomach and sometimes to disguise the taste of other medicines. R. Turbirth (turpeth) was given as a cathartic and purgative.
A rare early Worcester bowl, moulded with eight wide panels, painted in the famille verte palette with Oriental flowers and foliage amongst rockwork, unmarked, c.1752, minor chips to the rim, some wear, 21.5cm. Cf. Important Worcester Porcelain, The R. David Butti Collection, Bonhams, 10 May 2006, lot. 14, and H. Rissik Marshall, Coloured Worcester Porcelain of the First Period, Part II, pl. 3, no. 47 for similar examples.
