Gershwin thanks his correspondent for her kind letter about his brother and the Gershwin songs and continues 'I am happy to be able to enclose one of his canceled (sic) bank checks which you can keep as is, or from which you can cut his actual signature…'. The manuscript warrant is addressed to the Attorney General, ordering him to prepare 'a Bill fit for our Royall Signature to pass Our great Seale', and states, in part, 'Whereas the Deane of the Cathedrall Church of St. Paulls London…did…lett unto Thomas Neale….the ground and soyle of a late Mill…with severall other…buildings…And whereas William Sancroft Doctor in Divinity Deane of the Cathedrall Church of St Paulls London and the said Thomas Neale, have by their humble Petition desired us to grant to the said Thomas Neale during the said Lease…liberty to hold a Markett in Shadwell in the County of Middlx on every Wednesday weekly for the ease and relief of the Inhabitants…And whereas by Inquisition taken at the house of Thomas Kinsey in Bloomesbury in the Parish of St. Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlx…it is found that it will not be any damage to…neighbouring marketts if wee should grant to the said Thomas Neale…that they…should have and hold one Market in a certaine place called Shadwell in or near the Parish of Stepney…on Wednesday in every week yearly….' The manuscript document is a military commission appointing John Lloyd to be a Captain in the Regiment of Foot commanded by Archibald, Earl of Ilay. Countersigned at the foot by Henry Boyle (1669-1725) 1st Baron Carleton. Anglo-Irish Politician, Lord Treasurer of Ireland 1704-15 & Northern Secretary 1708-10. Lacking the seal although with the pale blue revenue stamp affixed in the left margin. Some light overall age wear and a few minor stains, G Archibald Campbell (1682-1761) 3rd Duke of Argyll, Earl of Ilay (from 1706). Scottish Nobleman, Politician & Soldier. One of the founders of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

A good, early D.S., George R, just two days after becoming King, at the head, one page (vellum), oblong folio, Court at Saville House, 27th October 1760. The partially printed document is a military commission appointing George Forbes ('commonly called Lord Forbes') to be a Major General 'of all and singular Our Forces, as well as Horse, as Foot, employed, or to be employed in Our Service'. Countersigned at the foot by William Pitt (1708-1778) The Elder. 1st Earl of Chatham. British Prime Minister 1766-68, Secretary of State for the Southern Department 1756-57, 1757-61. With blind embossed paper seal affixed. Some light dust staining to the upper edge, only very slightly affecting the King's signature, and a few very small, extremely minor tears at the edges. About VG George Forbes (1710-1769) 4th Earl of Granard. Irish Soldier and Politician who had entered the army in 1726.

GEORGE III: (1738-1820) King of the United Kingdom 1760-1820. D.S., George R, as King, (a bold, 'mad' example), at the head, one page, folio, Court at Saint James's, 13th April 1808. The partially printed document is a Royal Licence issued to Messrs. Lubbock & Co and their merchants for a six month period, permitting two vessels to proceed from the Ports of Cadiz, Ayamonte or St Lucar to the Port of London 'with cargos of wine and such goods as are allowed by our order of the 11th November 1807 to be imported' without being hindered by a blockade providing the vessels 'shall not be found to have had on board….any Warlike or Naval Stores, or any Article or Articles intended to be or usually converted into Warlike or Naval Stores, or Salt or Provisions of any Kind whatever, except such as may be fairly deemed Sea Stores for the Use of the Crews….' Countersigned at the foot by Robert Jenkinson (1770-1828) 2nd Earl of Liverpool. British Prime Minister 1812-27, Home Secretary 1804-06, 1807-09. Signed ('Hawkesbury') as Baron Hawkesbury. With blind embossed paper seal affixed. With blank integral leaf. Some light dust staining to the edges and some folds and a few small tears to the edges, only very slightly affecting one letter of the King's signature. G

Ink signature ('Victoria R I', as Queen) on a slim oblong piece evidently clipped from the head of a document, with the pale blue blind embossed seal affixed. Neatly laid down to a page removed from an album and with some light staining and age wear. Together with King William IV (1765-1837) King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland 1830-37. Ink signature ('William R', as King) on a slim oblong piece removed from the conclusion of a letter, with four lines of holograph text, in part, '....prevents all danger even when the smallpox is caught naturally: I am not so easy about my son George who I am afraid does not take care of himself...'. EDWARD VII: (1841-1910) King of the United Kingdom 1901-10. A.L.S., Edward R, as King, three pages, 8vo, Buckingham Palace, 24th March n.y. (1905), to Mrs. Claydon, on the King's personal printed stationery featuring a gold embossed cypher and crown. The King thanks his correspondent for having written regarding her husband's health, continuing 'I am very glad to hear that it is so much more satisfactory & that his journey to England did him no harm'. He further thanks Mrs. Claydon for her 'enquiries after my second daughter' and remarks 'She has made an excellent recovery after her serious illness - & is now yachting with the Queen in the Mediterranean'. The King concludes 'The engagement of my niece to the young Prince of Sweden was very gratifying'. A couple of neat splits to the edges of the central horizontal folds, otherwise VG Princess Victoria (1868-1935) Fourth child and second daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Princess Margaret of Connaught (1882-1920) Crown Princess of Sweden, first wife of the future King Gustaf VI Adolf. The couple were married at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on 15th June 1905.

Vintage signed and inscribed Christmas greetings card, the folding 8vo card featuring a colour illustration to the cover, being a reproduction of a painting entitled The Fortune Teller, after Reynolds. Signed (‘George R. I., as King) to the inside beneath a printed greeting and dated 1915-16 in his hand. Together with Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) Queen of the United Kingdom 1901-10, consort of King Edward VII. Vintage signed and inscribed Christmas greetings card, the folding 8vo card featuring a colour illustration to the cover, being a reproduction of a painting entitled Queen Margaret of Scotland praying for the Victory of The Scottish Army by Finnemore. Signed (‘Alexandra’) to the inside beneath a printed greeting and dated Christmas 1915 in her hand. Both cards are inscribed to Miss [Edith] Wolfe and her sister Mabel, teachers at Sandringham. The typed document appoints John William Taylor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Mexico City, to be 'Our undoubted Commissioner, Procurator and Plenipotentiary in respect of Our United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' and to enter into discussions relative to telecommunications between British Honduras and Mexico and granting Taylor 'all manner of Power and Authority to…conclude with such Minister or Ministers….as may be vested with similar Power and Authority on the part of Our Good Friend the President of the United States of Mexico, any Treaty, Convention, Agreement, Protocol or other Instrument that may tend to the attainment of…[telecommunications]…and to sign for Us, and in Our name…everything so agreed upon and concluded….as We Ourselves could do, if personally present…' With a red blind embossed seal affixed at the conclusion, the seal issued in the name of King George VI. Some extremely minor, light staining and creasing, otherwise VG The present document was signed in the second month of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.

BRITISH ROYALTY: An 8vo sheet removed from a visitors book individually signed by Queen Elizabeth II (1926- ) Queen of the United Kingdom 1952- ('Elizabeth R', adding the date 24th April 1952 in her hand), Princess Margaret (1930-2002) Countess of Snowdon, younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II ('Margaret', also dated 24th April 1952 in her hand), Prince Philip (1921- ) Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II ('Philip'), Henry Somerset (1900-1984) 10th Duke of Beaufort. Master of the Horse (1936-78) to King Edward VIII, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II and Mary Somerset (1897-1987) Duchess of Beaufort, daughter of the Marquess of Cambridge. All, with the exception of the Duke of Beaufort, have signed their names in fountain pen inks. Neatly inlaid to a slightly larger page with decorative borders. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, otherwise VG The present signatures are dated just a few months after Queen Elizabeth acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952, and just a few days after she had celebrated her 26th birthday on 21st April.

Signed ('Gerald R Ford') in black ink with his name alone to the lower photographer's mount; Jimmy Carter (1924- ) American President 1977-81. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 2002. Signed colour 16 x 11.5 photograph by both Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter individually, the image depicting them greeting Pope John Paul II outside The White House. Signed by both in bold black inks to clear areas of the image (rolled, and with some light surface creasing); George H. W. Bush (1924- ) American President 1989-93. Black ink signature on a custom printed bookplate with an inscription in another hand. Together with a selection of signed 8 x 10 photographs by various American political figures, some of them Vice Presidents, comprising Walter Mondale, Bob Dole, John Kerry, John McCain and Mitt Romney.
