A Victorian silver cased aneroid pocket barometer with altimeter scale, R. and J. Beck Limited, London, 1895, With 1.75 inch circular silvered register signed R & J BECK LTD., 68 Cornhill, LONDON beneath Compensated to centre within concentric scale calibrated for barometric inches divided into twentieths and annotated with the usual weather observations within rotating outer scale calibrated in feet from 0 to 8000 and divided for 100 foot intervals, the pocket watch type case with engine turned rear cover and suspension ring, marks for London 1895, diameter 5cm (2ins). The partnership between Richard and Joseph Beck is recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS & RETAILERS 1660-1900 as first working from 31 Cornhill 1867-80 and then 68 Cornhill from 1868. They were best known for supplying microscopes and other optical instruments which were presumably constructed in their factory at Lister Works, Kentish Town, Holloway, East London. Banfield further notes that they often signed their instruments R & J Beck Ltd from 1894.

A French brass and champleve enamelled mantel clock, The movement by S. Marti and Cie, Paris, late 19th century, The circular eight-day gong striking movement stamped with S. Marti et Cie, MEDAILLE DARGENT, 1889 roundel and circular R C flanking caduceus trademark for Richard et Cie above number 192, 3 6 to backplate, the cream enamelled Arabic numeral dial with polychrome enamelled rosette to centre and blued steel hands set within hinged bevel-glazed brass bezel, the rectangular case with concave sided cobalt blue ground polychrome scroll enamelled conical surmount raised on six baluster supports and flanked by spire finials above cavetto cornice and conforming enamelled infill to front panel around dial flanked by slender multi-knop turned baluster uprights to the canted front and rear angles, on stepped moulded skirt base with disc feet, 28.5cm (11.25ins) high
A rare early Victorian brass inlaid mahogany striking drop dial fusee wall clock, George Halthide, Hereford, circa 1848, The five pillar twin chain fusee bell striking movement with anchor escapement and shouldered plates, the 12 inch cream painted Roman numeral convex dial signed Halthide, Hereford to centre and with steel spade hands set behind a hinged cast brass convex glazed bezel within turned wooden surround, the case with stylised scroll carved ears flanking brass fillet bordered shaped glazed lenticle above rectangular pendulum access flap within brass line inlaid surround with rosette decorated returns to the quarter-round base, the sides with rectangular doors inset with brass fishscale sound frets, the interior of the case with applied paper label inscribed in ink George Halthide, Hereford, 25th Septr, 1848, 65cm (25.5ins) high
A George II oak thirty-hour longcase clock, Henry Deykin, Worcester, mid 18th century, The single handed plated countwheel bell striking movement with 10 inch square brass dial boldly signed Henr Deykin, WORCESTER n.1311 to centre and with fine pierced blued steel hand within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with lozenge half hour markers and female mask and scroll cast spandrels to angles, in a case with small shaped crest to the canted caddy upstand above ogee cornice, plain frieze and slender three quarter columns to hood door, the trunk with rectangular door, on plain plinth base with canted skirt, 211cm (83ins) high. Henry Deykin is recorded in Loomes, Brian LANTERN CLOCKS & Their Makers as born in Worcester around 1715 and apprenticed to his father, Thomas, gaining his freedom in 1736. He succeeded his father in 1777 moving the business from Broad Street to Lich Street before dying in 1779 leaving his business to former workman, William Rouse. Loomes notes a miniature hooded wall timepiece by Deykin signed and numbered 891 to a boss applied to the arch of the dial.
