A WWI Distinguished Conduct Medal and War and Victory duo, the former impressed '291238 Pte. J. Dixon 1/7 Ches. R.-T.F.' and the two latter '3826 Pte. J. Dixon Ches. R.', also two further Cheshire Regiment Victory Medals awarded to 290703 Pte. A. Vigrass and 2188 Pte. H. Moss and four Cheshire badges.Accompanied by a letter relating to the DCM 'When in charge of ammunition and water convoys, he repeatedly took them up to the firing line under heavy fire. On another occasion he averted a stampede under sudden and unexpected artillery fire and his coolness and ready presence of wind on all occasions inspired those under him with the greatest confidence.'Also accompanied by a photocopied letter stating that the brother of Pte. Vigrass was KIA at Sulva Bay Gallipoli and that Pte. HAMILTON/ 1926 75.5cm wide, 97cm high, 45.5cm deep Provenance: Purchased directly from Betty Joel in 1926 By family descent Note: The original receipt for this piece, dated October 14th 1926, states that 10% was added to the price for making up the pieces in 'Andoman Padouk'. Betty Joel set up her furniture making business in 1918 with her husband David Joel and initially has their workshops in factory at Hayling Island where these pieces would have been made. The firm rented a showroom at 177 Sloane Street in London. Such was the popularity of Joel’s designs that by 1929 the factory moved to bigger premises at Portsmouth. Many of England’s social and corporate elite commissioned her to design interiors and furniture for their homes and offices.
