A good Hitler Youth knife, Fartenmesser, the blade etched with motto and stamped with mark of Carl Heidelberg, Solingen, RZM mark and “M7/65 1938”, the chrome plated steel hilt having chequered black grips and enamelled HJ badge, in its sheath with leather belt loop and retaining strap. Near VGC (almost negligible patches of wear); together with a small quantity of paperwork, photographs, France & Germany Star and 1939-45 War medal in official box, and 2 cap badges, relating to R Dendy of the Grenadier Guards, c 1944. A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry officer’s undress sword, broad, straight shallow fullered blade, 34½”, with hatchet point faintly etched for half its length with crowned 1801-16 R Arms, mounted hussar, crowned GR cypher and trophies with traces of gilt on a darkened background, steel semi basket ladder pattern guard, plain facetted pommel and backstrap with ears, wirebound wooden grip, replacement buff leather liner and sword knot, in its heavy steel scabbard (slightly dented) with 2 rings. A scarce Volunteer officer’s .65" Baker type flintlock rifle, by Fenton, London, 46½” overall, octagonal twist barrel 30¼” with London proofs, engraved “R Fenton-London” and with 2 folding leaf rearsights, the breech plug with silver line and maker’s poincon, muzzle with bayonet bar on the right side, flat stepped lock with safety bolt, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, plate engraved with small floral bouquets, sunburst and “Fenton”, walnut fullstock with chequered wrist, cheekpiece and engraved brass mounts including butt trap cover with fern tip border and trophy of arms, facetted butt plate tang, and square back trigger guard, with metal socket behind the breech tang for free standing aperture sight, sling swivels and a brass mounted wooden ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (light pitting to barrel, traces of repaired fracture to stock, small spliced repairs to fore end with replacement fore end cap). Plate 59

†A World War I Prussian NCO’s sword, twin fullered blade 29½”, marked Robert Hermes, Solingen at forte, with ordnance stamps on backstrap, brass hilt incorporating crowned eagle, forward sloping pommel, wirebound leather grip, with crowned FRII monogram, black and silver knot, in scabbard marked “145. An assembled Vic rifle regt officer’s sword, thin flexible DE Spanish blade 31”, etched and gilt for half length on both sides with fenestrated, stylized floral panels and marked “Fabrica de Toledo 1880” on one side at forte with Spanish R Arms on the other, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, stepped pommel and backstrap with chequered thumbpiece, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard (kinked, plating bubbled) with single ring. Sword near VGC, the blade and hilt retaining most original finish (minor rust speckles to inside of guard).
An interesting officer’s sword of The R Army Medical Corps, almost straight, fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson, no 30276 (for 1890) on backstrap, etched with flat topped crown and VR cypher with wreath, on both sides, in foliate geometric panels, owner’s name “G S McLoughlin” (of the R.A.M.C) in scroll at forte on one side, plated infantry pattern hilt with GVR cypher (c. 1934 “when the RAMC finally changed over to the pattern 1897” sword, Robson p245), chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with 2 rings, and leather case (worn); 2 studio photographs, photostat and other details of George Somers McLoughlin (1867-1943) who served with the RAMC in E. Africa, the Boer War, WWI and Staff appointments, and was awarded the DSO and made a CMG, from 1890 - 1922, retiring with the rank of Major General; see also next lot. Very Good condition. Plate 45
A .50” Sharp’s New Model 1859 breech loading percussion carbine, number 62929, the barrel with Lawrence’s patent folding rearsight; the lock stamped “C Sharps’ Pat. Oct 5th 1852” and with patent pellet dispenser marked “R S Lawrence’ Pat. April 12th 1859”, the walnut stock having initials “S.W” stamped in front of the butt plate tang, saddle bar and ring on left side, and plated barrel band.
