WORLD WAR ONE DCM AND SINGLE Distinguished Conduct Medal and Victory Medal9388 L CPL H BEMROSE 1/LINC R [9388 CPL H BEMROSE LINC R on Victory] with two photographic postcards of Benrose and two postwomen, several other postcards sent to and from other members of the family, a Christmas 1914 tin and several newspaper cuttings DCM: London Gazette, 4 March 1918 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a party of 20 men. Although isolated, he consolidated a shell hole position and held it all day. At nightfall he established connection with posts on either bank and volunteered to attack a machine gun which was causing trouble."Corporal Harold Bemrose of 1 Bn Lincolnshire Regiment was the son of John Bemrose, a branch of the Bemrose family of Derby. He was born at Peterborough on 21 July 1893 and enlisted in March 1912. He died on 13 April 1918 at No 3 Australian Clearing Station from wounds sustained at Wytschaete earlier the same day and before receiving his DCM.
