WORLD WAR ONE DCM AND SINGLE Distinguished Conduct Medal and Victory Medal9388 L CPL H BEMROSE 1/LINC R [9388 CPL H BEMROSE LINC R on Victory] with two photographic postcards of Benrose and two postwomen, several other postcards sent to and from other members of the family, a Christmas 1914 tin and several newspaper cuttings DCM: London Gazette, 4 March 1918 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a party of 20 men. Although isolated, he consolidated a shell hole position and held it all day. At nightfall he established connection with posts on either bank and volunteered to attack a machine gun which was causing trouble."Corporal Harold Bemrose of 1 Bn Lincolnshire Regiment was the son of John Bemrose, a branch of the Bemrose family of Derby. He was born at Peterborough on 21 July 1893 and enlisted in March 1912. He died on 13 April 1918 at No 3 Australian Clearing Station from wounds sustained at Wytschaete earlier the same day and before receiving his DCM. He is buried at Nine Elms British Cemetery (Grave XIV.F.12) For further information see online catalogue

Burma. 1940 Stamp Centenary issue. Essays for overprints on the 2a 6p and 3a, each reading 'COMMEMORATION/PENNY POSTAGE/6TH MAY 1840' and surcharged 'ONE ANNA'. Affixed to piece of notepaper with note from Thomas Archer to MSP (Master, Security Printing; Desmond Fitzmaurice). Also a photograph of the same trials which was submitted for approval, and a letter (19th March 1940) from R. Nesbitt-Hawes (Director-General of Posts and Telegraphs) which accompanied the card. Samoa. 1939 25th Anniversary of New Zealand Control, an unusual collection with the set in mint singles and imprint blocks, six used sets plus extras, numerous First Day Covers some with village cancels (some of these signed by the postmasters). Just a little toning in places. We also note an NZ OHMS envelope with a blown-up bromide of the Stevenson stamp affixed to the front, the intent of which we do not comprehend! The piece of metal is embossed "Zeppelin L32 1916 " hand written to the mount is inscribed "Zeppelin L32 was shot down by Frederick Sowrey FR F C aged 23, it crashed near Snails Farm, South Green", inner panel 15cm x 22cm
