David Hill (1914-1977), pen and ink, surrealist architectural study with figures, 42 x 22cm, accompanied by a Gallerie R. Creuze poster illustrated with the current lot. (2) An American artist of Dutch parentage, David Hill grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. When he was eight years old David Hill was taken by his mother, counter-clock wise, round the world. It was a seminal experience and from this early age he was sketching and painting tirelessly, in his artistic career he continued to travel extensively, engaging with the architecture and cultures of the changing landscapes and sketching and painting wherever he went. He worked and painted in New York from 1942-1947, and then moved to Paris, which became his home for the rest of his life. In 1957, he pooled his resources with his artist friend, Joseph Plaskett, and the two purchased a medieval house at 2, rue Pecquay, in one of Paris' oldest districts, the Marais. There, they offered each other great support in their respective artistic careers and they held legendary parties. David Hill’s career was often that of the commercial artist, he provided illustrations for leading publications in France and the U.S. he also worked as a muralist and painted successfully, exhibiting extensively in the Paris galleries, he counted amongst his patrons Cary Grant, who made a habit of purchasing David Hill’s series of egg still lives to present to his leading ladies after each new film he made. David’s work is underscored by a superb draftsmanship, his paintings are imbued with an often undefinable surrealist quality and sometimes underlining menace, his work has been collected extensively in the U.K., Paris and the U.S.

Ca. 100-300 AD.A silver bracelet of penannular design. The term "penannular" refers to a type of circular or ring-shaped object that features an open space, typically seen in the form of a slight break or gap between the terminals. In this bracelet, the round-formed shank gracefully widens at its central section, creating an expanded area that adds visual interest and aesthetic appeal. The terminals flare outwards, completing the penannular form. Roman silver bracelets were cherished adornments that held both decorative and symbolic significance in Roman society. These bracelets were worn by individuals from various social strata, serving as fashionable accessories for both men and women. Their popularity spanned the Roman Empire, reflecting the widespread appreciation for fine craftsmanship and luxurious materials. Size: L:63mm / W:58mm ; 50g Provenance: From the collection of Mr. R. Unger, previously with the Parthenon gallery, London; formerly in 1970s UK collection.
Ca. 100-300 AD.A black intaglio with a masterfully engraved left-facing goat, capturing the essence of Roman glyptic art in its most refined form. The goat, portrayed in a dynamic pose, balances gracefully on its hind legs, its body intricately detailed with incised fur and delicately accented hooves. Atop its head, a pair of elegantly curved backward horns enhances its regal presence. Adding further depth to the scene, an eight-pointed star adorns the field behind the creature's back, infusing the composition with an enigmatic allure. The goat, often associated with fertility, virility, and divine power in Roman mythology, was regarded as a creature embodying both earthly and divine qualities. Its depiction in a dynamic pose conveys a sense of energy and vitality, emphasizing the active nature of life and the interconnectedness between the mortal and the divine. Size: D: 21.69mm / US: 12 3/8 / UK: Y 1/2; 4.77g Provenance: From the collection of Mr. R. Unger, previously with the Parthenon gallery, London; formerly in 1970s UK collection.
Ca. 900-1100 AD.A silver ring with its thin flat-section shank and a large and broad bezel, which is the focal point of the design. The bezel is divided by a central ridge, creating two equal fields for decorative embellishment. In each field, intricate punched decor adorns the surface, adding depth and texture to the overall composition. Rings served both ornamental and functional purposes within Viking Age societies. They were worn as personal adornments, often displaying intricate designs and symbols that conveyed social status, religious beliefs, and cultural identity. Size: D: 18.95mm / US: 9 / UK: R 1/2; 1.67g Provenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets.
Ca. 100-300 AD.A garnet intaglio depicting a stag. The majestic creature faces right, its muscular body rendered in profile and captured in a dynamic pose of graceful movement, as if caught mid-stride. Situated in the background are delicately etched trees, serving as a contextual backdrop for the stag's presence. The intaglio is housed within a possibly later gold ring. The ring itself features a round hoop, exhibiting a rounded exterior and expanded shoulders. Within Roman glyptic art, animal representations held a multifaceted significance, encompassing both mythical and naturalistic elements. Such depictions often conveyed symbolic meanings, drawing upon the broader cultural and religious beliefs prevalent in the Roman world. The stag, for instance, embodied notions of strength, agility, and virility. Its depiction in a dynamic pose, as if captured in the midst of running, further emphasizes the animal's vitality and energetic spirit. Size: D: 18.95mm / US: 9 / UK: R 1/2; 5.31g Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. old Swiss family collection formed in the 1990s.

Ca. 100-300 AD.A bronze finger ring with a broad and flat-section hoop, providing a comfortable fit for the wearer. The incised shoulders add an elegant touch, enhancing the visual appeal of the ring. The focal point of this piece is the large octagonal-shaped bezel, adorned with a grooved border that adds depth and texture. Within the bezel, a central panel captures attention with its mesmerizing chevron decor, displaying a series of interlocking V-shaped motifs. These chevron patterns, characterized by their angular precision, create a sense of visual harmony and geometric sophistication. Flanking the central panel are side panels adorned with mesmerizing geometric patterns. These designs exemplify the Roman fascination with order, symmetry, and precision, reflecting their mastery of mathematical principles and artistic expression. Size: D: 18.75mm / US: 8 3/4 / UK: R; 10.06g Provenance: Private London collector, acquired on the Austrian Art market, formerly in an old USA collection formed since the 1970s.
Ca. 300 - 400 AD (or later) .A chalcedony intaglio features a seated Sphinx positioned in profile, facing to the left, atop a solid baseline. The Sphinx, an enigmatic creature of ancient mythology, is meticulously portrayed with exquisite attention to detail. Its body, a fascinating amalgamation of human and animal elements, showcases a leonine torso elegantly melded with a regal human head, adorned with a majestic headdress. The Sphinx's serene countenance emanates an air of wisdom and mystery, encapsulating the allure of this mythical being. Nestled within a gold ring, possibly from a later period, this chalcedony intaglio finds itself in the embrace of a D-shaped hoop boasting decorative shoulders. The ring's grandeur is further accentuated by its large bezel, adorned with an intricately modelled border. This ornate border adds a touch of sophistication and craftsmanship to the overall composition, framing the Sphinx and creating a captivating visual focal point. Depictions of the Sphinx hold significant significance in Roman glyptic art, transcending mere decorative motifs. The Sphinx, a creature of both Greek and Egyptian mythology, represented a fusion of cultural and symbolic elements. In Roman art, Sphinx depictions often evoked notions of mystery, enigma, and riddles, reflecting the Romans' fascination with intellectual challenges and the quest for knowledge. Size: D: 18.95mm / US: 9 / UK: R 1/2; 9.67g Provenance: Private London collection, UK art market before 2000.
Ca. 1000-1500 AD.A gold cruciform pendant, meticulously crafted with exquisite attention to detail. Composed of a cross with arms extending outward, the pendant radiates an aura of sacred symbolism. At the intersection of the cross, a captivating original emerald is elegantly nestled, lending a touch of opulence to the piece. The upper face of each arm of the cross is adorned with intricate filigree clusters, serving as a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship employed during its creation. Delicately woven, these filigree decorations grace each corner of the arms, adding a captivating and ornate quality to the pendant's aesthetic. Further enhancing its allure, a second cross is masterfully formed on the upper face, with filigree motifs enfolded within gracefully shaped petal borders. This additional layer of design imbues the pendant with a sense of layered complexity and visual richness. Crowning the pendant is a meticulously crafted suspension loop, which allows for the attachment of a chain or cord to adorn the wearer. Size: L:38.4mm / W:34.4mm ; 11.8g Provenance: From the collection of Mr. R. Unger, previously with the Parthenon gallery, London; formerly in 1970s UK collection.
Ca. 200 AD.A carnelian intaglio featuring a depiction of the revered goddess Diana, known as Artemis in Greek mythology. This exquisite intaglio portrays Diana in a dynamic stance with her left hand gracefully retrieving an arrow from the quiver resting on her back, while her right hand holds the bow in readiness, poised to unleash her precise aim. Her body is elegantly twisted to the side, adding a sense of movement and energy to the composition. Diana, a significant figure in the Roman pantheon, occupies a prominent position as the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and chastity. As the twin sister of Apollo, she possesses a complex array of attributes and roles. Diana is celebrated as a skilled huntress, embodying grace, agility, and a deep connection with the natural world. Her association with the moon underscores her role as a protector and nurturer of nature and wildlife. This intaglio is set within a gold ring, possibly from a later period. The ring features a round-section, smooth hoop that exudes timeless elegance, gradually expanding to form a bezel that frames the intricately carved intaglio. The harmonious integration of the intaglio and the gold ring showcases the profound admiration for both mythological narratives and skilled metalworking techniques prevalent in Roman culture. For a similar, please see The Israel Museum, Accession number: 70.62.394. Size: D: 18.95mm / US: 9 / UK: R 1/2; 12.4g Provenance: Private London collection, UK art market before 2000.

1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec Transmission: manualMileage:122857While many of the PlayStation generation may have first experienced the drama of the R34 GT-R V-Spec via Gran Turismo, it was an appearance in The Fast and the Furious franchise that led to an explosion in global popularity for the R34 GT-R. Indeed, Paul Walker drove an R34 GT-R in 2 Fast 2 Furious, enhancing its almost mythical status. But it was in the 'real' world where the R34 GT-R V-Spec would cement its reputation. Described by Evo magazine as 'a warrior-class performer' in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a class act remained intact. The V-Spec (Victory Specification) was offered with a number of upgrades over the standard R34 and came equipped with arguably one of the most technically sophisticated four-wheel-drive/steer chassis in the world: the ATTESA E-TS Pro system. The V-Spec also benefitted from an active limited-slip differential at the rear. Along with its mechanical upgrades, the V-Spec also had firmer suspension and lower ground clearance, as well as a rear carbon fibre air diffuser. The Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec offered here was first registered in Japan in March 1999 and is presented in gleaming black with a grey interior. It comes with factory fitted radio/cassette, air conditioning and electric windows. Its fabulous six-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and it comes with a copy of its export certificate, V5C registration document and its MoT test certificate which expires in November 2023. The car was recommissioned at marque specialist Paul Cheshire Automotive with all fluids changed along with a precautionary cambelt change. These early versions of the iconic R34 generation Nissan Skyline GT-R series are coveted by collectors because they are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in standard, unmolested form. This superb V-Spec example remains original throughout and would be a prime example to drive and enjoy.
1984 BMW R80 RT Café Racer Transmission: manualMileage:The BMW R80 RT with a two-cylinder four-stroke 800cc boxer engine and shaft drive to the rear wheel was manufactured from 1982 to 1995. As a touring bike (RT for touring), it was equipped with a sweeping full fairing and a high windshield. The engine with 797cc and 50bhp power came from the BMW R80/7. Between 1982 to 1984, essentially the RT was a slimmed down version of the 'bigger sister' R 100 RT.This beautiful bespoke Café Racer build around the BMW R80 RT is finished in custom pearlescent Lamborghini orange (Arancio Atlas) with powder coated frame, wheels, swing arm and forks with custom tan Alcantara seat. Built to what can only be considered a professional standard and such a high specification, using only the very best parts, this example was invited to be displayed at the London Bike Shed Show. Featuring Motogadget Motoscope display and M-Lock keyless ignition, Öhlins adjustable suspension, a lightweight lithium battery, FlatRacer fork with pre-load adjusters and rear sets, Hagon progressive fork springs and adjustable handlebars with integrated indicators. Offered with a substantial history file including detailed photos of the build, old MoT test certificates, invoices and original handbook/service book, this two previous owner example is privately entered with a recent MoT test certificate and will stop people in their tracks!
1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec Transmission: manualMileage:62961The new R33 Skyline GT-R was launched in January 1995 with a base GT-R and the V-Spec model, which offered a sportier suspension set-up resulting in lower ground clearance and featured the newer ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel drive system, which included an Active Limited-Slip Differential which, at the time, made it arguably the most technologically advanced production car in the world. The system was conceived in the 1990s for the JTCC to enable some 600bhp to be fed through the wheels and on to the racetrack efficiently. The V-Spec also featured an active LSD on the rear axle which further aided traction by calculating the optimum torque-split between the left and right rear wheels, variable from fully locked to totally free. The increased body rigidity and improved handling potential over the previous generation R32 necessitated several specially designed cross members being incorporated into the monocoque and extra torsion bars were added to the multi-link suspension to further enhance stability. Working closely with Bridgestone technicians to perfect the Potenza tyres, Nissan put the prototype R33 GT-R through its paces in all weathers at the notorious Nürburgring, earning them a daring reputation amongst other manufacturers. Power came from the now legendary RB26DETT, Nissan's 2.6 litre twin-turbocharged straight-six masterpiece. This R33 GT-R V-Spec is rather special. Our vendor knew this car for a number of years before buying it, it belonged to a family friend and had always been his dream car, so when the opportunity came to buy it, he jumped at it. The car is presented in possibly the best, and most famous, colour for a Skyline, Midnight Purple, which presents in absolutely outstanding condition following a full bare metal respray. In recent years this car has been through a restoration costing in excess of £45,000 and covering very little mileage since, the condition throughout speaks for itself. Frankly, no stone was left unturned, the underside was all re-powercoated, new polybushes fitted throughout, AP Racing brakes all round with six-pot calipers upfront and four-pot calipers at the rear, and an engine set up to die for. The car now produces 500bhp on low-boost and up to 610bhp on high boost, which the seller informs us was his target for a very safe and reliable power output, these engines can be pushed much further but at this level the parts aren't stressed to their limits. The engine was fully stripped down and rebuilt, with the following specification, HKS super sqv4 dump valve, aluminium radiator, aluminium intercooler, Bosch 1000 cc injectors, Garrett GT2860-5 turbo's, HKS power flow exhaust system and Haltech elite 2000 ECU. Our vendor reports the car drives absolutely superbly, being very compliant in normal driving conditions. The Nissan Skyline GT-R is possibly one of the most legendary and desirable JDM cars of the 1990's and this example has been restored and rebuild by a true enthusiast with the addition of tasteful and well proven upgrades. Offered with a very attractive estimate, this could be the exact GT-R you have been waiting for.
2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Transmission: automaticMileage:47500Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1993, the Ian Callum styled DB7 began production in 1994 at a new factory in Bloxham, Oxfordshire. It was engineered in conjunction with Tom Walkinshaw's TWR group who built the new supercharged six-cylinder engine. In 1999, the new DB7 Vantage with a V12 engine was revealed. It didn't just bring a new powertrain but more aggressive styling with a bigger front grille, new fog, side and indicator lights and imposing 18" wheels.Presented in Canna Di Fucile, a Ferrari colourway commonly referred to as CDF, with a black leather trim and charcoal piping which matches the carpets and the dash is finished with walnut veneer, this 2001 Vantage boasts just 47,500 miles from new. The bodywork is described as very good with the wheels equally unmarked and a bonus in a classic car, the radio has been uprated to accommodate Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity. The history boasts a comprehensive Aston Martin dealer and specialist service history but for a few gaps in the earlier years when our vendor believers the car was SORN, also found in the file is the original Aston Martin communication confirming the desirable colour combination. Recent works include all 12 coil packs replaced in 2019 and in July 2020 the underside rust protection was renewed, front suspension overhauled, and lower wishbone bushes and road springs replaced along with the alternator, the spring pans, radius arm bushes and N/S/R and O/S/R outer fulcrum bearings. The Vapour management valves, and purge valves were replaced in November 2021 and the handbrake system was overhauled coupled to new shoes in September 2021. In October 2022, the idler pulley, tensioner belt drive, FEAD drive belt and flat Idler pulley were all replaced with the gear selector lever and assembly along with the front O/S subframe v-mounts and engine earth cable. Today the V12 DB7 is still an achingly gorgeous sportscar and this example is specified in an unusually subtle colour combination. Very attractively priced, this is a stunning example of a collectable Aston Martin.
1997 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Targa Transmission: automaticMileage:66500The C5 Corvette - only the fifth incarnation of America's most popular sports car since its introduction in 1953 - was launched to rave reviews in 1997 and featured an all-new body that was both modern and much stronger than before. With a rear-mounted transaxle for the first time, the Corvette had near perfect 50:50 weight distribution and more interior space as well. The new alloy block LS1 V8, an engine Australian's have grown to love over the years, used state-of-the-art technology with a cast-alloy head and developed a massive 345bhp at 5600rpm along with 350lb/ft of torque. There was a choice of two transmissions, including GM's own electronically controlled four-speed manual or the Borg-Warner six-speed manual with a Getrag limited-slip diff. An Electronic Throttle Control system enabled a limitless range of throttle progression. The shapely and more aero coupé body featured a removable hardtop while the new twin-pod instrument panel recalled the Stingrays of the Sixties in design. Despite being larger than the previous C4 Vette, Chevrolet's engineers actually managed to shed weight through the clever use of lightweight materials and more compact LS1 engine, performance improved markedly as a result. The quarter-mile was dispatched in 13.28 seconds and 0-100km/h took just five seconds, making this one of the fastest cars on the road in 1997. The C5 Corvette was, arguably for the first time ever, a world class sports car genuinely capable of matching the best European cars on every level. Factory-backed C5-R racers took on the Porsches in major endurance races from 1999, scoring some significant wins. Today, the C5 offers unrivalled value for money in terms of looks, performance and reliability. This superb example is presented in silver with a black leather interior. It comes with electric windows, electric seats, suede headlining, cruise control and a factory fitted Bose entertainment system with CD player. The present owner imported this Corvette in March 2022 and then set about converting the headlights to comply with UK regulation, powder coated the wheels and fitted an aftermarket Bassani exhaust system and a KNN induction air filter.
