An ivory and silver coloured metal expanding parallel ruler mid 18th century with pivoted scroll pierced x frame two screws lacking 11.5cm long; with an ivory scale ruler calibrated as a protractor and stamped ‘I: Sifson London’ to verso 11.3cm long. (2). The scale ruler is probably by Jonathan Sisson II c.1690-1747 or his son Jeremiah fl. 1736-88 Jonathan Sisson II was chief workman for George Graham and instrument maker to H R H the Prince of Wales.

St. L to the back plate with black horn handle a brass and mahogany 4 inch star back reel with twin black handles and brass foot and an Army and Navy black painted 3 inch alloy reel with ivorine handle and brass foot (3)
An oak thirty hour longcase clock with moonphase circa 1730 the four pillar outside countwheel bell striking movement with 12.25in square brass dial with moonphase and arched calendar aperture to the matted centre within an applied Roman numeral chapter ring with foliate half hour markers Arabic five minutes and signed ‘R. Midgley Halifax’ to the lower edge the angles with castle gateway pattern cast spandrels in a swan neck pedimented case with turned pilasters to hood above shaped top door flanked by quarter colums to trunk on plinth base with raised panel front and bracket feet movement and dial associated to the distressed case 212cm high. Richard Midgley is recorded in Baillie G H ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’ as working in Halifax circa 1720-40.
