R Robinson 10 bore rotary under lever single barrel shotgun, serial number 50997 36 inch barrel engraved R. Robinson Hull 8688, the double line engraved lock and action fitted into figured chequered stock with horn capped forend and plain escutcheon.UK SHOTGUN LICENCE REQUIRED TO BUY THIS LOT.Condition report: The Robinson 10 bore is a section 2 shotgun and must stay on licence as its got 3 inch chambers. The bore is bright and there are no signs of pitting. There is a glued repaired crack to the thin section of the forend where wood meets barrel, the rest of the woodwork is in good order with only small dents and scratches from use but nothing defacing.

Bowman16/5 L' medals with corresponding miniatures, also the framed January 1958 M.B.E. certificate, also a 'For Loyal Service' barometer plaque presented by Colonel H.A.G. Brooke M.C. on behalf of the Regiment Associations 2nd May 1981, and a collection of buttons worn by Bowman.Lieutenant Colonel R. A. Bowman MBELieutenant Colonel Robert Bowman (Bob) joined the 16th / 5th Lancers at the age of 19 in York 1934 serving for fifty years continuously from 1934 – 1984 with the regiment starting as a from the lowest ranks and mucking horse stables out to holding the title of Lieutenant Colonel and receiving the MBE in 1958.Bob Bowman’s career truly began when he moved with the regiment to Hounslow in 1937 where they were based for the 1937 Coronation of King George VI, Bob was in the Musical Ride at Olympia. In November of the same year the Lancers sailed to India and here Bob Bowman was present for the final ceremonial mounted parade for the 16th / 5th Lancers on 1st January 1939 at Risalpur to mark the anniversary of Queen Victoria becoming Empress of India (the equivalent in India of Trooping the Colour) Bob Bowman was to return to the UK upon the outbreak of WWII before the regiment then sailed to North Africa to embark on operation Torch. It was here that Bob Bowman learnt skills that were to be used for life when he was drafted into the Quartermaster’s department. Bob Bowman served with the regiment throughout both the North Africa campaign and the Italian Campaign.Bob Bowman’s importance in the Quartermaster’s department cannot be overstated. He was to revolutionise systems and set new standards so significant that the rest of the Army would move over to new methods of working as devised by Bob. Quartermasters of other regiments were sent to see Bob Bowman and his advice and professionalism was sought and appreciated by both the QM’s and Bobs commanding officers.Amongst many other achievements Bob Bowman was in the representative party of the 15th / 6th Lancers to be invited to Windsor Castle during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Upon reaching retirement age for active service Bob Bowman took on the role of Regimental Secretary at Home Headquarters.

London and Calcutta, the action numbered or engraved 1872, finely engraved case hardened action fitted with chequered pistol grip with steel cap containing hinged trap, fitted into a period case (possibly not original to the gun) containing powder flask, bullet mould marked '27' screwdriver, Joyce percussion cap tin and a watch oil bottle.Section 58(2) Antique /obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence.4 3/4 barrels.
Cased Alex Henry percussion double rifle retailed by R. T. Pritchett with incredibly unusual rifling. the 28 inch Damascus barrels fitted platinum breach plugs, with fixed 100 and three folding leaf sights up to 300 yards, the top rib part file cut and engraved Alex Henry 8 South St Andrews Street Edinburgh, the rifling pattern .557 across the lands and the multi-groove 34 bore, consisting of two deep grooves for a mechanical fit bullet as well as two bands of nine shallow grooves, fitted into figured chequered stock with spring loaded patch box marked with initials S.R., gold escutcheon engraved with a hand and crown armorial, the trigger guard tang marked with serial number 3222, the two side locks engraved R. T. Pritchett within double line borders and fitted with safety catches. The oak case with its pigskin lining (typical of best quality percussion firearms by Alex Henry) with brass edges fitted into leather outer case bearing original owner's name Struan Robertson, the inside with maker's label to lid, fitted out with two boxwood boxes, one containing patches, an empty cap tin, wad punch, oil bottle, two ramrods of slightly different lengths, a G. & J.W. Hawksley leather covered powder flask, and a bullet mould marked A.Henry to cast the correct bullets for the rifle.Section 58(2) Antique /obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence.Footnote: George Duncan Robertson, 22nd of Struan, 8th of Drumachuine and 18th Chief of Clan Donnachaidh was born on 26 July 1816.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. George Duncan Robertson, 21st of Struan, 7th of Drumachuine and 17th Chief of Clan Donnachaidh and Ann Outhwaite.He married Mary Stuart Menzies, daughter of Major Archibald Menzies, on 3 April 1839.1 He died on 3 April 1864 at age 47 at Isle of Wight, England, without issue.He was a Lieutenant in the 42nd Highlanders. He held the position of 18th Chief of the Clan Donnachaidh from in 1842. He held the office of Justice of the Peace, He was styled Struan Robertson.Clan Donnachaidh, sometimes known as Clan Robertson, William Forbes Skene (1809-92), Historiographer Royal of Scotland, wrote in 1837 that: “the Robertsons of Struan are unquestionably the oldest family in Scotland, being the sole remaining branch of that Royal House of Atholl which occupied the throne of Scotland during the 11th and 12th centuries.”

The bore is dark but wth strong rifling, there is light pitting similar to the outside of the rifle. The action works correctly. The stock has quite a few dents, chips and scratches, it has obviously been carried quite a lot. There are no splits.

A WILKINSON FIGHTING KNIFE NAMED TO MAJOR RICHARD HUBBERSTY OF THE 89th REGIMENT. A bone handled fighting knife by Wilkinson of Pall Mall with a 21.5cm 'bowie' style blade stamped H. Wilkinson 27 Pall Mall and named R.N. Hubbersty 89th Regiment within a rectangular field with scrolling ends. The blade sharpened. In a leather scabbard marked in ink 'Hubbersty 89th R' 35cm overall length. Burke's Landed Gentry record Richard Nathan Hubbersty (known as Nathan) as being born on the 3rd of May 1839, he was commissioned into the 89th Regiment of Foot as and Ensign on the 24th September 1858, and a Lieutenant from April 1861 at which time the census record him being a resident of Umballa where the regiment was stationed. Fever and Cholera decimated the men and it seems likely that Hubbersty had a period of prolonged sick leave which he spent in New Zealand. He is recorded as being in New Zealand from 1866 helping a friend by the name of Theodore Hurt at his farm on the Selwyn River near Canterbury on the South Island. He is believed to have returned to the U.K. in 1868. During his absence from the 89th which had been raised in Dublin in 1793 as a reaction to the French Revolution, and which saw service in the Crimea and India amongst other places, becoming the 89th (The Princess Victoria's) Regiment of Foot. He was raised to the rank of Captain in June 1869, In 1870 the regiment was stationed in Madras, in November 1872 it marched into Bangalore. From 1876 they were in British Burma. Hubbersty became a Major on July 1st 1881 and an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel on 11th April 1885 by which time he was on retired pay. He died unmarried in Cornwall on December 1st 1886 at the age of 47. Provenance: The first Viscount Trenchard and by direct descent in the family.

With an 80cm etched blade 'Supplied by Defence Group' and 'M III R' This sword apparently supplied to Swaziland in 1936. With a leather and brass mounted scabbard and later dress knot. 97cm total length.

Holland is recorded on the Casualty list for the 1st Battalion at Colesburg, 6th January 1900 and deceased at Pretoria 1st April 1900. Lacking ribbon, clasps detached.

R. and a Defence Medal, unnamed as issued in postal delivery box addressed to A.G, Moore 9 Beacon Way, Chorley Wood, Herts, to the reverse 'T.A.Headquuarters, Oxford Road, Aylesbury', with a medal slip listing a single medal. With a photograph of a Cavalry Trooper on horseback, believed to be the recipient, image 24 x 30cm, framed and glazed, overall 51 x 64cm. Alfred Moore served as a Private in the Gloucestershire Regiment (37482), 3rd Hussars (23703) and the Machine Gun Corps Cavalry (105086).
A BRITISH WAR MEDAL TO A CASUALTY OF THE R.N.A.S. A First World War British War Medal named to F.27454 W.Moore A.M. 2 R,N.A.S. William Moore of Hoddesdon, Hertfordhsire, was born on the 18th of July 1896, he served as an Air Mechanic 2nd Class, although no detail is given he clearly became a casualty of the war or immediate postwar period with casualty number 586/1924. The medal is accompanied by box of issue, envelope and letter addressed to the recipients Father.
A POSSIBLE FIRST WORLD WAR FAMILY CASUALTY GROUP TO THE BERKSHIRES. A group of three comprising 1914 'Mons' Star, War Medal and Victory Medal named to 9170 Private G. Hazell 2/R Berks.R and a pair named to 9334 Private H. Hazell 2/R Berks. George Hazell is recorded as serving with the 2nd Battalion and being killed in action on the 15th of April 1915, he is buried at Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery in Fleurbaix near the France Belgium border. Harry Hazell is recorded as being wounded on 8th September 1915 and entitled to wear a wound stripe, at this time he is recorded as serving with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. With a collection of cap badges and other items including a a George V Half Crown the reverse cleaned and engraved with the Royal Berkshire Crest.

A GREAT WAR PAIR TO A MILITARY MEDAL RECIPIENT. A First World War pair comprising 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal named to G (GS) 1415 L-Cpl W.P. Joyce R.W. Kent R. William Joyce is recorded as serving with Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, 1st Battalion. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field, which was recorded in the Gazette on 17th July 1917, p7281. William Joyce married in 1914 and served from 3/9/14 to 9/10/18, he entered France on the 1st of May 1915, he is recorded as being wounded on 8/12/17 and entitled to a wound stripe, later suffering again from wounds and becoming physically unfit for service he was awarded a Silver War Badge and discharged on the 9th October 1918 at the age of 27, he died in 1943. 2 medals unmounted.
A GREAT WAR PAIR AND POSSIBLE FAMILY GROUP. A First World War pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal to 189211 2 Cpl F.F. Strange R.E. and a Victory Medal named to 29115 Pte A.E. Strange. R. Berks. Frederick F. Strange, born c 1889 served with the 29th Broad Gauge Operating Company. he is recorded with a date of death of 19th February 1920. Alfred E. Strange is recorded with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and the Labour Corps.
A GREAT WAR CASUALTY PAIR TO THE ROYAL HAMPSHIRE REGIMENT. A First World War pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to 3259 Pte H.C. Fuller Hamps R. Henry J. Charles Fuller of Basingstoke Hampshire served with the 1/4th Battalion (Territorial Force) Royal Hampshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 21st January 1916 having been reported as missing on the 17th March whilst serving in Mesopotamia. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq, panel 21 & 63.
