A pencil sketch, landscape "R. Rhine, about half a mile off, behind flood bank", depicting various aircraft over the Rhine, dated 24th March 1945, 26.5 x 57cm, framed and glazed. Notes: After the Normandy campaign, the battle of the Rhine is widely considered to be Dempsey's most important accomplishment. This sketch drawn from life catches the drama of the initial airborne assault. The airborne element involving the British 6th Airborne and US 17th Airborne was the largest such undertaking during WW2.
