A T-shaped bow brooch with integral loop and discoid plaque with reserved pellet, thick bow and arms with raised lozenges to the outer face, D-section foot; hinged pin and catchplate to the reverse; wire hoop and coiled shank attached to the loop. 16 grams, 52mm (2"). A group of cast bronze disc brooches comprising: one with radiating zigzag and pellets, enamelled field, catchplate and ferrous accretion from the pin to the reverse; one with central knop, radiating lobes, pin and catchplate to the reverse. 10 grams total, 23-26mm (1"). A silver trumpet brooch with enamel ornament comprising a discoid headplate with leaf-shaped enamelled cells and thick loop above, trumpet-shaped upper bow with red and black enamelled La Tène style panels, ribbed D-section collar with acanthus-leaf detail above and below, keeled footplate with opposed triangular enamelled cells in red and black, discoid foot with enamel fill and central pellet; catchplate and hinged pin to the reverse; gold wire looped around the bow above the collar. 20 grams, 66mm (2 1/2"). Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989, item 1528. Property of a Suffolk lady. " Fine condition.
A pencil sketch, landscape "R. Rhine, about half a mile off, behind flood bank", depicting various aircraft over the Rhine, dated 24th March 1945, 26.5 x 57cm, framed and glazed. Notes: After the Normandy campaign, the battle of the Rhine is widely considered to be Dempsey's most important accomplishment. This sketch drawn from life catches the drama of the initial airborne assault. The airborne element involving the British 6th Airborne and US 17th Airborne was the largest such undertaking during WW2.
