An emerald and diamond ring, the central step cut cut emerald four double claw set within an inner bezel of twenty nine brilliant cut claw set diamonds, in turn set within an outer bezel of thirty seven brilliant cut claw set diamonds, all set in an open double mount between open shoulders each set with six uniform brilliant cut claw set diamonds, on a plain band. Ring size R. Certified Colombian Emerald, accompanied by certificate number 05425, issued by The Gem and Pearl Laboratory, 23 March 2012.
Mascagni, Pietro (1863-1945). Gruppo di autografi afferenti all’attività di mecenate del Conte Florestano Lardarel (1848- 1925) discendente di una famiglia di industriali, d`origine francese, cui si deve lo sviluppo dell`industria boracifera in Toscana. Come è noto Mascagni, in segno di gratitudine, gli dedicò, nel 1890, lo spartito della Cavalleria rusticana. Siamo però ai primordi della carriera del giovane Mascagni, che scrive al Conte e al suo intendente due personalissime lettere autografe firmate. Nel maggio del 1882 Mascagni parte per Milano grazie dunque all`aiuto economico di Larderel e si trova a dividere l’alloggio con Giacomo Puccini. Nella prima lunga lettera, 4 pagine in 8°, Mascagni scrive che, dopo aver sofferto l’umidità e l’oscurità della prima sua stanza milanese, ha finalmente ‘trovato una bellissima stanza, piena di luce, centralissima ed in casa di ottima famiglia. Creda che proprio mi sento rinascere a studiare in questa stanza che per me, che devo studiare quasi tutta la intera giornata, è quello che ci vuole … Creda che studio assai. Le lezioni per il Conservatorio mi portano via molto tempo; di più sto poi componendo una Sonata per pianoforte per il Concorso aperto a Palermo … Sto pure lavorando ad una piccola opera per il Concorso annuo stabilito nel R. Conservatorio da un benemerito Signore’. Dopo aver raccontato di una passeggera ‘costipazione dovuta al non essere io avvezzo al clima di Milano’ continua (oggi sappiam bene mentendo!) rassicurando il suo benefattore che ‘sono più che contento dei miei professori’. Nel lotto anche una lettera del giornalista del Fanfulla noto come Yorick, un’accorata lettera di ringraziamento del padre di Mascagni e uno spartito autografo firmato di Alfredo Soffredini – primo insegnante di Mascagni e fondatore dell’Istituto musicale di Livorno – intitolato Omaggio a Wagner. A group of World War I and RAF World War II medals and log books etc. to the Fortune family of Rangeworthy, near Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. The World War I British War and Defence medals to 52051 PTE J.G. Fortune. Glouc. R and 1939 - 45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Burma Star and War medal - all mounted together as worn post-war by Mrs Fortune widow of J G Fortune and mother of Fl/Lt Frederick Charles Fortune, killed on active service 14th May 1945 in Burma. FC Fortunes operationally detailed Piloto Flying Book from 30th March 1941 to 10th May 1945 with operations in Hurricanes with 136 and 176 Sqns. Beaufighters with 176 Sqdn and Mosquitoes with 45 Sqdn, almost completing three tours of duty when his Log Book was stamped - Killed on Active Service - He is well noted in Hurricanes over the Arakan by Norman Franks from/to whom there are several letters. A detailed obituary including last flight and photos of him and his grave, his personal photo album with aircraft and pilots photos, signed 136/176 Sqdn menus, cloth badge Burma area map, Imperial War Graves Commission Far East cemeteries illustrated book etc. plus books - Forgotten Skies, Russell and Jungle Pilot, Sutton. Also a World War II War Medal with slip, in transmission box to F. Officer M.J.
