First World War – Lance Corporal Alfred Hodgins – 1914 Star Trio awarded to L-10231 PTE A HODGINS 1/R W. KENT R. Together with the For King and Empire Services Rendered Silver badge and Princess Mary Christmas giftbox. Small article provided with medals reads: “Lance Corporal A. Hodgins – 1st Battalion The Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) – Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hodgin, of 16, Morden-grove Greenwich, his father having been employed for many years by Messrs. E. G. G. Berryman and Sons, of Blackheath-road, Greenwich. Lance-Corporal Hodgin was wounded seriously in the shoulder, neck and lungs at Ypres, but is now making good progress in St. Thomas’ Hospital. He was promoted at the front from private to lance-corporal for doing good work “sniping”’
Military Medal, George V first type (8929 Cpl C. Stewart 3/W York R), GVF. With Record Office York note confirming award, London Gazette 9.11.1916 and a further note attached "Military Medal Awarded for Gallantry and Devotion to Duty on the First Somme Offensive on July 1st 1916". Charles Stewart was killed in action on 31st July 1917 aged 26, he is commemorated at the Menin Gate.
A George V courtsword, slender blade 32" etched with Royal Cypher, crossed lances, and scrolls, by J R Gaunt, late Edw. Thurkle, beaded gilt hilt with gold bullion knot, in its brown leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts.
