A superb example in exceptional condition with an extraordinary amount of factory/model development history. The legendary Lotus Carlton is the kind of car that comes along once in a generation. At a time when really fast four-door saloons were the preserve of BMW and Mercedes, this Vauxhall (Opel) derived 'super-saloon' arrived on the scene demolishing the opposition. Oddly, it wasn't its huge performance or masculine good looks that created the most fuss, but the fact that the Daily Mail was so outraged by its stated top speed of 176mph, that it declared it too fast for British roads. Of course, the Lotus Carlton - or Type 104 to Lotus aficionados - was nothing of the sort, and although it shared its major components with a mainstream executive car, its level of development across every aspect of automotive dynamics had resulted in a truly special performance car. It was powered by a twin-turbo version of the venerable straight-six used in the range-topping Senator, which developed a remarkable 377bhp. To achieve that figure, Lotus had put a lot of work into the 3.6-litre power unit, uprating and strengthening the bottom end, porting the 24-valve cylinder head (from the Carlton GSI), and fitting forged 'slipper' pistons made by Mahle atop new Lotus-designed connecting rods tied to a counterweighted, forged steel crankshaft. The gearbox was the same 6-speed used in the Corvette ZR-1, the only transmission in GM's parts bin, capable of handling the car's monster torque. AP 'Group C' derived brakes - 4-pot calipers with 330mm ventilated discs at the front and 2-pot at the rear - sat behind specially developed Goodyear tyres. Performance was brisk, to say the least. 0-60mph came up in five seconds, 0-100 was dispatched in 11.1 seconds and in 1992, Autocar magazine recorded a time of 17 seconds for their 0-100-0 challenge, second best behind an F40, however it's the car's maximum speed of 176mph that will always be quoted by its fans.This beautiful example was one of the last off the line and, according to the Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, it was designated #0919. It's obvious that it has been treasured and well cared for all its life and has spent the last ten years in correct storage as part of a bespoke Collection.The indicated mileage is 74,301 and its exceptional condition makes it one of the very best to come to market in recent years. A recent check over by a Lotus Specialist only revealed a slightly slow thermostat and it was noted that 'the car drives exceptionally well'.What really sets this Lotus Carlton apart from other examples is that it's accompanied by a fascinating volume of original R&D documents from the Lotus factory at Hethel. Quite by chance, over a motoring-themed evening, the marriage of these and the car was made possible. In addition to the very substantial, still unopened, cellophane-wrapped owner's commemorative book, there are multiple volumes of development journals from the Test and Development Department at Hethel whilst pre-production tests were being carried out. Included are mission notes, current engineering proposal folders covering everything from brakes to charge-cooling systems, engineering reports for High Speed Testing and production schedules, and numerous project reports to be circulated out to the 'who’s-who' within Lotus, Opel, GM and Vauxhall. Also present is a record of a directive sent out to the Dealer Network advising against automatic car washes because the rear track was too wide. It's also supplied with dealer service manuals and the cased TECH 1 dealer diagnostic computer. It would be an understatement to say the history content with this car is comprehensive and surely a unique package.'Sledgehammer' was the word often used to describe the performance of these saloons but Vauxhall footnoted promotional content with the words 'Very few will be made, very few will understand or appreciate it fully'. Supplied new in right-hand drive by Jack Barclay Ltd, with some 20 years of Monaco-based cruising and diligently maintained regardless of use. An exceptional modern-classic, one of just 197 Bentley Continentals produced and perhaps the only sub-10,000 mile car in these colours available today. When Rolls-Royce launched the two-door version of the Silver Shadow in 1966, the International ‘Jet Set’ began to clamour for attention at the dealerships. The Drop Head Coupé that followed in 1967 was even more exclusive and waiting lists ran for years. As the Rolls-Royce became somewhat more mainstream, the traditional Bentley owner-driver, those that helped secure Crewe’s future in the post-war era with their expensive and racy coach-built Continentals, were offered little more than a curved grille adorned by a ‘Flying-B’. It’s no surprise, therefore, that Bentley enthusiasts chose the faster and more distinctive Aston Martins, Jensens and Ferraris over the following decades, only tempted back with the launch of the 'new' Bentley Continental R and Azure of the 1990s.Consequently, the Bentley Convertible was produced in far smaller numbers than its Rolls-Royce equivalent, despite being, arguably, the more handsome of the two. Between 1967 and 1995, production ran to just 570 Bentley soft tops, or a smidgen over 10%, when compared to the 5,678 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertibles sold. As a result, the convertible Bentley is the most sought after of the two in today's market, enjoying favour not just with marque enthusiasts but with those who also appreciate rarity. Although mildly updated, with an unrivalled opulence, these cars were still unashamedly ‘old school’ and whilst other 1980s luxury manufacturers were advocating the benefits of ‘twin airbags', the craftsmen at Crewe were still extolling the convenience of ‘twin cocktail cabinets’.Dating from 1986 and now re-badged, this fabulous example was one of just 194 Continentals produced. It was originally supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd on 8th August 1989 finished in royal blue with a single gold coach-line, over a Magnolia hide interior piped in dark blue to match the carpeting and over-rugs and fitted with a power hood lined in special-order cloth. Unusually, it was specified with a dashboard-mounted tachometer, factory-fitted from new.The well stamped service book confirms a Jack Barclay Ltd service on 27th October 1989 at 1,175 miles and following its move to Monaco, multiple services by British Motors of Monte Carlo are recorded between 1990 and 2000 up to 3,489 miles. In 2001, the odometer was changed to kph and records show further British Motors servicing with later stamps at documented kilometre intervals by Rolls-Royce Cars Monaco, stamped as Global Garage Eurl. at 5,750km on 20th February 2009, additionally, copy invoices, headed Bentley Service, on file from Global Garage Eurl., amount to some €7,050 dated 9th June 2010.Returning to the United Kingdom in 2014, later stamps show additional servicing by marque specialists, West Hoathly Garage Ltd, who serviced the car at 8,458km in 2021. Latterly the service book confirms a service and a documented speedometer change back to mph with the kilometres taken into account, stamped at 9,194 miles, by marque specialists, Ranmore Service and Engineering Ltd, of Surrey on 1st August 2022. The history file contains not just the aforementioned service book, but also the handbooks in the embossed Bentley leather wallet together with Monaco paperwork and invoicing with additional UK maintenance records since 2014. The MOT records from 2014 show an average of 1,000km were added each year until the 2022 change, with less than 500 miles covered since. The most recent, advisory-free certificate was issued in May this year at 9,467 miles.As expected, the cased toolkit and bulb set are neatly stowed alongside the jack and appear to have never been used and it’s worth noting that the oil filler neck is amongst the cleanest we have ever seen on a 35 year old Crewe-built car. The private UK registration number is not included and the V5C by the time of the auction will likely have the original registration of G508 TYR.Based on its sibling, the Corniche, named after the 'Moyenne Corniche' top road between Nice and Monaco, it’s fitting that this Bentley spent 25 years cruising gently down that very road. Rightfully lauded as the 'Holy Grail' of the JDM world, the R34 GT-R is a car which goes against the age old saying of 'never meet your heroes' as it is everything one would hope it to be. Phenomenally advanced for its time, it's easy to forget that this car was launched in 1999 with a smörgåsbord of hugely advanced technology such as the electronically-controlled Super HICAS 4-wheel steering, 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics, aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six under the bonnet. The engine was mated to an all-new Getrag six-speed gearbox and transfer case. Unlike some other performance cars of the 1990s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs.Described by Evo magazine as 'A warrior-class performer' in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a 'class act' remained intact.The V-Spec was introduced in October 1999, just nine months after the launch of the R34 Series I, making it an almost immediate upgrade over the standard car. While the Series I was a fantastic car, the improvements were thorough and ensured the V-Spec and V-Spec II cars are even more desirable. The plates consist of 35 engraved key plates and 34 hand-coloured aquatint plates. Key plate xviii does not have a corresponding acquaint but this is the case with other copies consulted. Engraved plate xxxii is stained. Original wraps with engraved design to upper cover and original labels, the cover to the first part is well worn. Both volumes are housed in cloth solander boxes with leather spine labels.

Condition: The Bowl has some dents in the silver, pitting and scratches commensurate with the age of the bowl.

A significant work setting out the position of Jamaica in particular at the pivotal moment of slavery abolition in 1834.
WWI Casualty West Yorkshire Regiment Medal Duo, comprising British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to 75404 PTE H Ascroft W York R, some indentations to BWM rim.Lance Corporal (listed rank with CWGC) was a native of Wigan and the son of Tom and Elizabeth Alice Ascroft, 102 St Mary's Road, Sheffield. He served with 1 Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on the Western Front, and during a period of intense fighting to break the Hindenburg Line, he was mortally wounded and died on 23 October 1918. He is buried at Premont British Cemetery, France.

HMS Iris served with the Royal Navy Mediterranean Fleet from 1879 to 1887 and during the Anglo - Egyptian War in 1882 she was involved in the Naval blockade of the Port City of Damietta
Crimean War British Crimea Medal HMS Queen with Sebastopol Clasp, awarded to R Wells NB HMS Queen. HMS Queen was a first rate ship of the line launched in 1839, she served as flagship in the Mediterranean/Black Sea and during the Crimean War she was set on fire by a shell during the bombardment of Sebastopol on 11 October 1854.
WWI Deserter British Medal Duo Royal Engineers, comprising 1914 - 15 Star (impressed stamps to reverse are irregular with evidence of alteration, the medal may not have been issued to soldier with we and British war Medal to 51420 DV R W Hirst RE. Also unnamed Victory Medal. It appears that the British War Medal recipient initially enlisted after the outbreak of 3129 war PTE William Hirst Manchester REGT he was recorded as a deserter on 13th August 1914 and then re-enlisted on 3 September 1914 as 51420 DVR William Hirst Royal Engineers.
Boer War British Kings South Africa Medal Essex Regiment, with two clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 awarded to 5292 PTE R Ward Essex Regt, 1 Battalion Essex Regiment deployed to South Africa in December 1899 and was involved in the engagements Relief of Kimberley, Paardeburg, Diefontein, Diamond Hill and Belfast. The Battalion then embarked on garrison duty until the end of the war in 1902.
