GWR Signal Box Diagrams, qty 2 coloured comprising: linen backed Duffryn Rhondda East dated 16.9.20 but with a BR Western Region Neath stamp dated 18 July 1957 on rear; Cymmer R&SB Section dated 14.3.45, thick cartridge paper. Both in good overall condition for age, each having a small paper repair to one edge.
Poster `Scarborough - Travel By Train` unknown artist c1961, BR D/R size. Depicts a couple looking out over the town and seafront lit up in the evening sky. Published by BR North Eastern Region and printed by Chorley & Pickersgill. Folds and minor tears, slightly grubby toward the bottom but very good overall.
Poster `London Town - Travel By Train`, BR Q/R size. Depicts a large map of London Past & Present. The border is filled with Coats of Arms and the centrepiece is packed with streets, buildings and information including well known caricatures. Published by British Railways Southern Region and printed by Chromoworks. Good overall condition appears to be backed onto thicker paper or card.
GWR/LMS Joint Poster `The Severn, Avon & Wye Valleys` by Sayer, Q/R size mounted on board and in an unglazed frame. The map sows an area from Leamington Spa, Chipping Norton and Wantage to the East and Whiney-on-Wye, Abergavenny and Newport to the West. Centre points are Ashchurch and Tewkesbury. Some scuffing but overall very nice indeed.
BR colour Posters, qty 2 D/R size comprising: Ascot Races 1964 with top image of jockeys by Eckersley. Shows Day Tickets to Ascot from Isle of Wight and Portsmouth; Day Tickets to London with colour image at top by Laing. From stations in the Portsmouth area. Both have defects but very nice nevertheless.
Edward Robert Hughes (British, 1851-1914) `Evensong` watercolour and gouache laid onto canvas, signed and inscribed to artist`s label verso 9½ x 12¾in. (24 x 32.5cm.) * Inscription to label verso reads `"Evensong" by Edw. R. Hughes, 24 Beaufort Street, Chelsea, Price £10-10`. Exhibited: Dudley Gallery, General Exhibition of Water Colour Drawings, the Seventh, London, 1871, no.530. Edward Robert Hughes was a Pre-Raphaelite painter, a nephew of Arthur Hughes, under whom he studied until he entered the Royal Academy Schools. This work, exhibited when he was only nineteen years of age, shows the influence of his acquaintance, Simeon Solomon`s work `A Prelude by Bach`. It was shown shortly after another small watercolour with a similar theme, `The Spinet`, which was later exhibited at his memorial exhibition in 1914 and lauded by critics at The Studio as the work that most clearly demonstrated Hughes`s engagement with Pre-Raphaelitism.
