He began his artistic career as an etcher, like Muirhead Bone he was fascinated with architecture. Cameron also painted in oil and watercolour, particularly scenes from the hills and mountains of Scotland. A quiet and retiring man, Cameron much enjoyed the simpler and tranquil views of Scotland's mountain ranges and often painted at dusk. He was not interested in the decorative possibilities of painting and thus, although he knew the Glasgow Boys, his work stands outside the mainstream of the Glasgow School and remains distinctly individual. Cameron was the King's Painter and Limner in Scotland and lived for many years at Kippen in Stirlingshire 1933-45.

1 Large early 20th century signed glass in metal pictorial button. Here is an incredibly hard to find button from the French designer Rene Lalique. This is one of the 6 designs known in buttons that the Lalique company in France produced. The button depicts a beautiful Art Nouveau design of a Nymph and is set with three genuine small cultured pearls. The button is etched into the glass the signature of R. Lalique along with the word "Fioret" on one side and "Paris" on the other. The setting is silver and is backmarked Sterling. The glass is frosted etched and is enhanced in this case with a brownish sepia tint designed to highlight the molded glass image of the nymph and fauna. The button has been found in a variety of colors but this example is the only known version we are aware of with this special tint. You don't want to pass this fine example of Art Nouveau craftsmanship up. Truly remarkable. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". Large=1 1/4" and above, extra large=1 3/4" and above
* CLOTILDE PEPLOE (BRITISH 1915 - 1997), LAURELS AND CYPRESSES oil on canvas, signed verso, titled labels versoframed image size 89cm x 74cm, overall size 97cm x 82cm Labels verso: Arthur Lenars & Co, Paris; New Grafton Gallery, London; Duncan R Miller Fine Arts, LondonNote: Clotilde (Cloclo) Peploe was born in 1915, the daughter of Christopher Brewster, an American born in Austria, and Elizabeth von Hildebrand, also a painter born in Florence. During the 1930's Clotilde and her mother spent long months painting together in southern Italy, and later in Corfu and on mainland Greece. At the same time she became romantically attached to Willy Peploe, son of the Scottish artist, S.J. Peploe, whom she married in Athens in November 1939. During the war and post-war period the Peploes lived in Cyprus, Kenya, then Florence, before settling in London in 1948, where Willy began working as an art dealer and subsequently became director of Lefevre Gallery. It was not until the mid-50's that Clotilde slowly returned to painting, mostly in remote Mediterranean locations such as Ponza, Crete, the Cyclades or Calabria. Throughout these years she remained strangely reluctant to exhibit or part with her work except to close friends - although she was finally persuaded to do so on four occasions in London at the New Grafton Gallery in 1971, 1973, 1978 and 1982.
