The 1964 Wallace & Gromit 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit' promotional Austin A35 van, registration number ATK 117B, Preston green. Direct to the market from the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu 'Cars of the Stars Display' this unique A35 van is a one off vehicle built in conjunction with Aardman Animation and renowned Austineers Arme Brothers to promote Curse of the Were-Rabbit animated film. Prior to being on display at the National Motor Museum, the van has also been displayed in the Cotswold Motor Museum, and part of the Curse of the Were-Rabbit Aardman tour in Bristol, Wensleydale Dairies and Ashington Museum. It has also been seen as a celebrity photoshoot backdrop for the opening nights of the red carpet World Film Premiere event in Leicester Square, the Sky Regional Premiere in Manchester & Bristol, it was chosen to represent the Austin A30/A35 marque in the Birmingham Austin Centenary Parade, took part in the Film cars section, London 100 Years of Cars Parade from Park Lane to Whitehall, Lord Mayor's Show exhibited in Sheffield and on the Isle of Wight, it was used for promotional work at Harrods, Hamleys and Toys R Us, it appeared in a photoshoot in front of Buckingham Palace and numerous other promotional events. The van started out as a standard Austin A35 van with a 1098cc A-Series engine. The van was subjected to a five hundred hour complete restoration to bring the van up to show standard using new panels and mechanical components. During the process, dents were precisely applied to the panels before being sent for a bare metal respray in Preston Green, so named by Aardman and Mark Armé after the town Nick Park was born in. The van was then sent to an airbrush specialist to complete the signwriting and give the van its aged/distressed look to exactly replicate the van used in the film. The van was then subsequently unveiled at a ceremony arranged at the Aardman Studio which is documented in the book The Art of Wallace & Gromit. The van was used by Airfix to take all the measurements and drawings from to create their Curse of the Were-Rabbit model. As a gesture of thanks for using the van, the Airfix kit carries the van's original registration number ATK 117B as well as the show plate number HOP 21T. This is surely one of the most recognised and photographed vans to appear at auction recently and has just been featured on a front cover of Classic Car Weekly and offers an excellent opportunity to own a piece of film and automotive history. ***No V5C - the purchaser will need to apply for a new V5C**, no MOT See illustrations

Clyde Connell (American/Louisiana, 1901-1998) , "Bound People Series, No. 10", 1987, mixed media, paper and linen on wood, signed, initialed "C.C.", titled, dated and inscribed en verso, 74 1/4 in. x 14 in. x 3 1/2 in . Provenance: Private Collection, Shreveport, LA. Note: The work offered here is a powerful sculpture from the “Bound People” series by Clyde Connell and a reference to her feminist leanings. She is quoted as saying: “The women in Shreveport took the lead in art. When I was going to New York… the women didn’t seem to be as free-thinking and didn’t care about the art as the men did. They were too bound up in what they were doing. It was nobody’s fault but theirs. The bounds were not steel, you could rip them off.” Ref.: Kemp, John R. “Clyde Connell.” KnowLA Encyclopedia of Louisiana. Sept. 12, 2012. http://www.knowla.org/entry/1233/. Accessed Mar. 22, 2016.
Clyde Connell (American/Louisiana, 1901-1998) , "Saucer Trip", 1984, ink and watercolor on paper, pencil-signed and dated lower right, pencil-signed, titled, dated, inscribed and localized "Lake Bistineau" en verso, 29 3/4 in. x 22 1/2 in., framed . Provenance: Private Collection, Shreveport, LA. Note: Clyde Connell was born in 1901, the daughter of a plantation owner in Northern Louisiana. In the 1950’s, through her church she became active in civil rights causes throughout the South. From 1954 to 1962, she served as the southern representative to the progressive National Council of the Churches of Christ in New York. It was these bi-annual council meetings in New York that would put her in contact with the most current artistic movements. She would absorb these influences and take them home with her to her studio and house in Lake Bistineau. Connell’s upbringing surrounded by African-American culture would impact her greatly on both a moral and creative level. In fact, her social consciousness and regard for “cast-aside rootless social groups” would prove to be a driving factor in her life. As Charlotte Moser explains in her book on Clyde Connell, “[i]n the 1960s, childhood influences from Afro-American culture re-emerged as major components for her art, first as subject matter in and expressionistic version of social realism and then for its affinities to primitive art.” In the lot offered here, Connell has drawn a series of figures arranged in clusters. Each section has a backdrop of symbols and hieroglyphics, reminiscent of Connell’s Swamp Songs Series, with an inherent tension resulting from the negative space surrounding the clusters.
