John Frederick Herring Jr (British, 1815-1907), four horses watering at a farm yard trough with figures, 45cm x 63cm. PROVENANCE: Letter and sheet of paper attached verso. Sheet of paper reads 'This picture was given to me by my father Alderman J R Gower of Tunbridge Wells to whom it was given by the late Miss Herring of Tunbridge in lieu of rent owing. The picture was painted by her father . It was in my father's house from my earliest recollection. I was born in 1883. My father had also one unfinished picture and some prints by the same painter. Xmas 1907. Kate Miriam Sarah Gower'. Not signed.Extensive cracking to picture surface.Some small areas of over painting most notably to brown horses hind quarters.Frame size 62.5cm x 80cm.

Circle of Konstantin Kapidgli, Portrait Miniature on Copper of Sultan Selim III (R. 1789-1809) oval shaped oil on copper, framed. Measurements 12.5 x 10 cm, frame 20 x 18 cm Konstantin Kapidgli was a Greek-Ottoman artist comissioned by Sultan Selim III to draw portrait engravings of Ottoman Sultans, however following Selim III's deposition in 1807 the commission was cancelled, to be later resumed by John Young in 1815 during the reign of Mahmud II. Selim III was the 28th Sultan of the Ottoman empire, known as a patron of the arts and pro-reform. He was deposed in a military coup by the Janissaries and put to death in 1808
