Thomas, friend and flag captain to Lord Collingwood, Captain of the Ville de Paris, 110 guns, and later Captain of the same ship after Collingwood's death in 1810. Condition Report: The sheet has been laid down to card and appears to have been previously restored. There are several flattened creases to the outer edges, as well as what looks like a repaired tear to the upper right of the sitter's head (approx. 1cm) and to the right framing edge (approx. 1cm). There is some discolouration to the sheet and staining to the outer edges. The overall colour is a little muted and appears to have lost a bit of definition. Some light wear to the extreme edges. dating: about 1910 provenance: Prussia, Tombac skull with silver mounts, brass chin-straps with plates and lined with leather; the chanfrin with the plaque of the Order of the Black Eagle lacquered at the center. On the top the cusp. Skull and spike with damages the final plaque of the chin-strap and the cockades are missing. The rear part marked 'G K R 1 E'. Leather lining. rare. height 29 cm.
dating: Early 19th Century provenance: England, Smoothbore, two stage barrel, the first part octagonal and with marks of the Birmingham test bench and the mark 'R / I&W', then round with rings and floral engravings at the girdle. Bell-mouthed nozzle, with moulded muzzle. A snap bayonet with iron triangular blade assembled above the barrel. Sliding locking mechanism, assembled above the tang of the barrel. Lock provided with external secure lock, signature 'Richards' and 'J&W', and provided with sealed pan and big antifriction wheel. Smooth, wooden full stock. Brass mounts. Butt-plate with carved trophy, trigger guard with flower and acorn. Iron tipped, horn ramrod. For Joseph & William Richards see 'Der Neue Stoeckel', vol. 2 page 1040. With their address in Birmingham (49 New St.), where they worked together from 1799 to 1817. The page also features the same mark as the one on the gun. length 76 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: USA, Heavy, octagonal, rifled barre, signed 'R. FLOCKE' at the back, remains of antique browning, the fore-end was removed, the foresight with tubular sheath. 10 mm cal at the nozzle. Bore with some signs of use and time, visible rifling. The breech engraved with racemes and piston with spark arrester. Provided with mechanism with iron frame, finely engraved with racemes on a background with small circles and with remains of antique nickel-plated finishing. Hammer with engravings. Iron fore-end with remains of finishing and engraved with racemes en suite. Wooden butt with wide cheeckpiece. The right side of the butt side patchbox provided with silvered-brass stopper (the inner compartment is very small, with a screw). Iron mounts. All the butt side edged with iron bands. The butt plate provided with tangs and engraved with racemes en suite. Trigger guard, richly decorated with curls. Trigger and set trigger, both in goos working order. Brass-tipped, wooden ramrod with brass cartridge extractor. The carbine is provided with a handgrip (later?) with baluster-shaped, iron neck and wooden base with bone button, screwable in three different positions through the provided threaded holes below the fore-end. Complete with its original muzzle mount to mark the rifling on the ball and the brass tool to push the ball inside. length 120,5 cm.
dating: 1713 provenance: Republic of Venice, Strong, straight blade of lenticular section, the central segment featuring a long fuller stopping 10 cm circa far from the tip and the base. On the right side, at the forte, an engraving of an emblem which unfortunately is almost completely disappeared, the only element still visible is a choker with pendants. The left side with date '1713' and 'N. 29 R'. Elegant, iron basket hilt depicting the lion of Saint Mark (stylized). The front side is enriched with gilded-brass mounts decorated with rosettes. Grip with a copper-strap covering and wire bindings. Brass pommel shaped as a warrior's head, worked in full relief. length 109,5 cm.
dating: about 1720 provenance: France, Straight, double-edged blade of lenticular section, hexagonal first part, engraved with a wolf, Kabbala number '1403' and floral motifs. Blackened, iron hilt with pierced double shell-guard, loop-guards decorated with a double knot, thumb ring and spherical pommel. Wooden grip with metallic wire binding and moor's heads. Provenance: R. Brooker collection, inventory n. S - 1111. length 95 cm.
dating: Third quarter of the 18th Century provenance: France, Almost straight, single-and false-edged blade with large central fuller and thin rear groove, first part engraved with royal coat-of-arms with three lilies, 'Vive le Roy' and inscription 'Regiment de volontaires Etrangers de Clermont Prince', back marked 'Les freres teschefils de Pierre manufacture de lames a Solingen'. Iron mono-quillon hilt with langets, long smooth cap and grip with brass wire binding. Provenance: R. Brooker collection, inventory n. S - 980. length 80.5 cm.
