Dopson), Defence Medal, mounted for wearing; together with a photograph of Private Hope/Dopson, a 1st Kent Bttn textile wall token and a note book filled by the recipient with numerous photographs of his service in Eastern theatres. The discrepancy in the naming of the SCLS is explained by the fact that the recipient bore both the names Hope and Dopson, favouring the latter in later years.

William Woodhouse (British, 1857-1939) Srudies of a Heavy Horse and Dog Studies pencil on paper 23 x 16 cm Provenance: R B E Woodhouse Esq., the artist's son, and by descent William Woodhouse was born near Morecambe in Lancashire and rarely left this area during his life. He studied at the Lancaster School of Art and specialised in subjects of sporting dogs and game, developing a soft realistic style which captures the character of the animals very well. A retrospective exhibition of eighty nine paintings by Woodhouse was held in Preston after his death in 1939.

He and his artist brothers lived Cambridge, and Richard Henry Brock exhibited at the Royal Academy eight times. He shared a studio in Cambridge with his brothers - Tom, Dick, Harry and Charles were all artists. They were a quiet and reserved family and modest about their achievements. Richard Brock married a schoolmistress late in life and moved to Hastings and died in 1943.
