Oyster Watch Co., Junior Sport, ref. 3136, a stainless steel wrist watch, no. 164954, circa 1942, manual wind movement, 15 jewels, champagne dial, Arabic numerals, luminous pointed baton hands, centre seconds hand, screw down case back, engraved Capt. A. Blanchard, R. Signals, screw down crown, on an unsigned brown leather strap, case back, dial and crown signed, diameter 30mm The Oyster Watch Co. was, like Tudor, one of Rolex's subsidiary brands. The reference 3136 was powered by a FHF30 movement, later renamed Rolex calibre 59. These 30mm watches were a popular private purchase either by or for Allied servicemen in WWII. The recipient of this watch, Captain Alfred Ernest Blanchard - Royal Corp of Signals, a soldier from Grimsby, was captured in Malaya on 15/02/1942 and died in Thailand on 22/09/1943, age 39 as a prisoner-of-war building the Burma Railway. Condition Report: Movement is currently functioning. Movement has scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with general wear visible when viewed under a 4x loupe. Dial appears to have noticeable marks and scratches. Hands show marks and tarnishing when viewed under a x4 loupe. Glass has scratches and marks. Case shows light scratches and marks. Crown screws down and has light scratches and marking. Sets and winds smoothly. Strap shows marks and creasing. Buckle appears to be in good condition with minor marks and scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe. This lot does not come with box or papers. A small collection of jewellery, to include a late Victorian seed pearl ring, with crossover seed pearl accents, stamped 18ct, finger size N 1/2; a five stone turquoise ring, with floral shoulders, finger size R 1/2; a scrolled floral pierced quatrefoil brooch, stamped 9ct, 2.9cm wide; and a half pearl butterfly bar brooch, 3.9cm wide; 12.2g gross Condition Report: The seed pearl ring is missing a pearl, some general wear; the turquoise ring is rolled gold, missing some gold and so the base metal can be seen at points, there is wear commensurate with being worn with another ring, the shank has been partially replaced. Hallmarked Birmingham 1932. Each link to chain has lion passant. Chain measures approx. 37cm long. Total weight approx. 41.6g.
