An exhibition quality 3 ½ inch gauge model of a Great Western Railway 4-4-0 County Class tender locomotive No 3834 County of Somerset, built by Mr D R Carter of Minehead, Somerset, to the design by Don Young. The silver soldered superheated copper boiler by G. B. Boilers having fittings including pressure gauge, water sight glass, regulator, safety, drains and other usual fittings. The chassis having twin outside cylinders, Stephenson’s link valve gear with slide valves, lever reverse with multi-lever quadrant, fluted motion, injector, clack, safety, steam brake, whistle valve and mechanical oiler system. The model finished in traditional Great Western Railway dark green and black lined livery with fitted steps, hand-rails, lamp irons and detailed rivet work. The six wheel tender with coal compartment, fitted brake, hand operated water feed pump, opening tool boxes, steps, hand rails, firing tools and coupling. The model is finished to a high standard having been run on compressed air only and is displayed on a track and contained in a ‘Timbercraft’ glazed display case with polished brass builders plaque. Locomotive length 110cm. Cab width 16.5cm. Boiler History: The original Boiler Certificate No.GB077 Issued by G. B. Boiler Services, Charity Docks, Furnace Road, Bedworth. Warwickshire. Signed by G Brannigan. Dated the 19th of September 2003. Hydraulic test pressure 160 psi. An exhibition quality model of a 5 inch gauge Great Western Railway shunters truck, built by Mr D R Carter of Minehead, Somerset. Being No.41887 of 1897 period allocated to Hereford (Barton Yard) in January 1897. The model built using Swindon drawings dated 1911 and 1916. Having spoked wheels to GL5 profile. Opening top box, leaf springs, horizontal transverse buffing spring, couplings and many other detailed items. The model comes together with a display track and aluminium mounted base 56cm x 30cm. Total height 28cm.
An exhibition quality 1 inch scale model of a live steam Sanderson Beam Engine Glasgow circa 1846, built by Mr D R Carter of Minehead Somerset. and being of 12 horse power design with single cylinder 2 ½ inch stroke x ⅞ inch bore and having outside steam valve linked to eccentric on the open crank and fitted speed governor with bevel gears and shut off valve, single spoked flywheel 9 ¾ inch diameter. The model finished in terracotta and blue paintwork and mounted on pine display plinth with aluminium edge 51cm x 31cm. Total height 35cm.
Sparta carpet of almost square format with inscriptions, south west Anatolia, last quarter 19th century, 13ft. X 13ft. 4in. 3.96m. X 4.06m. Slight wear in places; lacking the flatweave finish at the top end. The red/rose field with pale gold inscription cartouche above the central indigo and pale gold medallion; pale green spandrels. Wonderful spatial all over design of angular flowers and foliage enlivened by the occasional amusing bird. Small ivory inscription octagons in the top right and lower left spandrels; red/rose main border with indigo and pale gold guards. Lustrous, velvety wool and relatively soft handle. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner in the early 1990s from the well-known carpet specialists, R. L. Rose and Company of Glasgow. The original receipt is available to view in the office.
Two Afghan rugs both second half 20th century, the first, north west Afghanistan, 6ft. 4in. X 4ft. 8in. 1.93m. X 1.42m. probably by the Ersari sub-clan from Cherqchi village, Sherberghan region. Red field with 5 rows of 8 small guls and secondary guls. The second, an Afghan purdah by the Chakesh clan, Aq Chah region, north Afghanistan, 8ft. X 5ft. 9in. 2.44m. X 1.75m.
