Karachov Kazak rug, south west Caucasus,late 19th century 6ft. 11in. X 5ft. 11in. 2.11m. X 1.80m. Hanging rings to left long side. Overall wear; slightly heavier in some places; corrosion to dark brown; some repiling and small repairs; small holes in several places. Superb green ground with terracotta leaf and calyx main border. Lustrous wool, rich palette and soft handle. Several examples of green ground Karachov Kazaks have been published including Bennett, I. op. Cit. P. 49. Pl.30; Hasson, R. Caucasian Rugs, L. A. Three Dutch silver perfume boxes comprising:- one octagonal, engraved with scrollwork panels, 1853; one maker's mark "R" with hammer above, 1893 and with English import marks for London, 1893, with bands of fleurs-de-lys and foliate motifs, small applied shield to front, lobed and beaded cover with chainwork rim; and one with maker's mark K22, 1869, cover with acorns, leaves and fruit applied to filigree scrollwork, sides engraved with floral and foliate reserves, wt. 80 gm.Overall good condition, first box has slight distortion to lower rim of cover.
Indian General Service & George V Militia Efficiency Medal Pair Border Regiment and Royal Engineers, Indian General Service 1908-35 with single clasp Waziristan 1921-24 “3590648 CPL G SIMMS BORD R” and crowned head bust Militia Efficiency medal “3590648 C Q M SJT G SIMMS RE”. Medals are swing mounted for wear. Accompanied by a hallmarked silver Territorial Army Rifle Association shooting medal awarded to him in 1931.
Great War Royal Dublin Fusiliers Casualty British War Medal, awarded to “15058 PTE P EMMETT R D FUS”. Medal remains in good condition. Private Patrick Emmett was from Finglass, County Dublin. He served overseas with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers from 20th December 1915. He died whilst serving with the 7th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 8th November 1917 and is buried at Alexandra (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery.
Four Kent Territorial / Volunteers Shoulder Titles, consisting of brass T/ASC/KENT with three lug fittings to the reverse, brass T/RFA/KENT with three lug fittings to the reverse, white metal T/5/R W KENT with three lug fittings to the reverse and brass E.K.V.F CINQUE PORTS shoulder title with two lug fittings to the reverse. Various conditions. (4 items)
Great War Father and Son Medal Groups 20th (5th City Pals) Battalion Manchester Regiment & Machine Gun Corps, groups consisting of the fathers British War and Victory medals awarded to “17340 SJT S DUNN MANCH R”, bronze memorial plaque “SIMON DUNN” and the sons British War and Victory medals “97715 PTE F T DUNN MGC”. Medals are complete with ribbons and remain in good condition. Simon Dunn was born in Dublin and enlisted in the Manchester regiment. Served as a Sergeant in the 20th Battalion (5th City Pals) Manchester regiment. He landed in France on 9th November 1915. He died on 27th February 1916. He was a bootmaker by trade and lived on Worsley Road, Patricroft, Manchester. He participated in shooting competitions at Bisley and was decorated by the Royal Humane Society for rescuing children who had fallen into the Bridgewater Canal.
Great War & Afghanistan North West Frontier Medal Group of Four Kent Cyclist Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment, group consisting of British War and Victory medals “2108 PTE F E WOODLAND KENT CYC BN”, Indian General Service Medal 1908 with single clasp Afghanistan N.W.F 1919 “266198 PTE F E WOODLAND R W KENT REGIMENT”. Medals are swing mounted for wear. Accompanied by 1939-45 Defence medal awarded for service during WW2. Accompanying the medals is a hallmarked silver Kent Education Committee medal, various photographs of Private Woodland and various documents relating to his service and demobilisation. Private Frank E Woodland was from Dymchurch Nr Folkstone. He enlisted in the 1/1st Kent Cyclist Battalion. He saw service with the regiment in India during the first world war from 1916. He continued to serve with the Royal West Kent regiment during the campaign in Afghanistan, North West Frontier in 1919.
Great War 1914-15 Star Trio & Photographs Manchester Regiment, the medals were awarded to “1590 PTE V BAGNALL MANCH R”. The medals remain in good condition and complete with ribbons. Accompanying the medals are a number of snapshot and postcard photographs of Private Bagnall out in Egypt before landing on the Gallipoli peninsular. Newspaper cutting identifying Private Bagnall which states he was a Billiards player in the Manchester area. His medal index card states that he later served with the Labour Corps and was awarded the Silver War Badge.
