Sehr seltener Einblattdruck anlässlich der Beisetzung von Wilhelm V. von Bayern in der Jesuitenkirche St. Michael in München im Jahr 1626. Das großformatige Blatt zeigt den geräumigen Chorraum von St. Michael mit Castrum doloris (Trauerlager) in der Mitte und anlässlich der Trauerfeierlichkeiten aufgestellten ephemeren Trauerdekoration, bestehend aus vier Pyramiden, Wappen des Hauses Wittelsbach, Skeletten mit Grabtüchern und Kerzen. Die Trauerfeierlichkeiten und -dekoration im Zuge der Beisetzung Wilhelms V. sind weiterhin durch ein Buch, Mausoleum virtutis et honoris piis manibus Guilielmi V. Serenissimi Boiariae Ducis Inter quatuor Pyramides a Collegio Societatis Iesu Monacensi Gratae Memoriae erectum [.] (bei Haeredibus Ioannis Hertsroy & Cornelio Leysserio, München 1626), dokumentiert. Ldr. d. Zt. mit Rsch. (Rücken mit kleiner Wurmspur, hinterer Deckel oben mit Fraßspuren, Leder etw. brüchig, beschabt und bestoßen). Reichhaltiges Kochbuch mit 250 Rezepten in sauberer Reinschrift. - Die mundartliche Färbung lässt auf eine Entstehung in Österreich schließen. Die Rezepte sind in bunter Folge eingetragen, aber durch ein alphabetisches Register erschlossen. So folgen etwa hintereinander "Die gebrennte Milch", "Die gestiftelten Mandlbögen" und "Die Kreps Sulzen". Italic, roman and Greek type. 8 black woodcut diagrams in the text including a zodiac diagram, all in accordance with Macrobius' precepts recommending the use of images to convey knowledge. On leaf k5(r) a half-page map of the globe with a representation of the winds (for Greenland we find the word Thila), in a way, brings together Neoplatonic knowledge by dividing the earth into five distinct climatic zones with the inhabited world north of the Equator, to the south there is an imaginary continent, the Antipodes, which is supposed to balance the continental masses, making it the first map to depict a southern continent. Complete specimen of the four blank maps in very good condition. The first and only rare Aldine edition of these three astronomical treatises of considerable importance, two by Macrobius and the third by Censorinus, which report alternative conceptions to the Ptolemaic Vulgate. Scipio's Dream, which forms the bulk of the sixth book of Cicero's De Republica, is perhaps the best known passage because, unlike the rest of the work, it has come down to us virtually intact. It was Macrobius' commentary on this Dream that allowed the transmission of Cicero's text: if the commentary itself contained only excerpts, later copyists included the entire text in their manuscripts. In the Commentary on Scipio's Dream, Macrobius, born around 370 in Sicca in Numidia, deals with the soul and the constitution of the universe by giving a Neo-Platonic interpretation of a famous passage from Cicero's Republic. The Saturnalia is a philosophical dialogue on history, mythology, literature and science. The edition also contains the only treatise that has come down to us from Censorinus, a Latin grammarian of the 3rd century: De die natali, which contains valuable insights into both the customs of the Romans, dealing with the birth and life of man, days, months, years, religious rites, etc., and the state of science at the time, with considerations of chronology, astronomy, natural history and music. Many illustrations are signed as designed by (I.) M(auro) R(overe), and all are signed as engraved by L(eon) P(alavicino), apart from that on p.149, which is unsigned. The work is divided into three parts: the first names all the most famous dancers of the time, and describes the sumptuous dance parties held in Milan; the second part describes the dance techniques, while the third describes the evolution of ballet from a scenic and musical point of view. In this third part appear the names of the knights and ladies, belonging to the high Milanese aristocracy. From p. 117 onwards the text contains many passages of music for the lute. First issue of the first counterfeit edition and first edition printed in France. It is therefore the second edition of Montesquieu's philosophical masterpiece, printed in Paris immediately after the original Geneva edition, published in November 1748. This pirated edition is distinguished by some small differences from the original edition and contains the same numbering errors as the pages of the Preface: however, an « r » is missing in « Barrillot » and the name is followed by a comma. There are three issues of the pirated edition: only the first contains, as in this example, the Errata sheet at the end of the first volume. Within two years of its publication, Montesquieu's treatise on political liberty had achieved such popularity that he, as Gebelin reports, wrote: “Il y a vingt-deux éditions de mon ouvrage répandeus dans toutes l'Europe.”The book aroused enormous controversy and its author was accused of atheism in the pages of the influential Jensenist periodical "Nouvelles Ecclésiastiques". Despite his "Défense", published in 1750, Montesquieu's work was placed on the Index in 1751. The pirated editions, however, do not have the 14 cancellations imposed by the censor in the original. A study by the Bibliotheque Diderot de Lyon finds that this edition plays an important role in the history of the book because it is mainly through this edition that Montesquieu's text became known in the 18th century.
