W. Shirley, Early Printed Maps of the British Isles. 1477 - 1650, 537. Hollar was employed by Thomas Jenner to etch a six-sheet map of England and Wales, which was based on Christopher Saxton's wall map, and designed to be 'Useful for all Comanders for Quarteringe of Souldiers & all sorts of Persons that would be informed, where the Armies be; never so commodiously drawne before this'. The map, or set of maps was designed for utilitarian use, and therefore are often found backed with linen to facilitate ease of folding and carrying. The maps were re-printed three times between 1644 and 1688 and these later editions show the roads. John Rocque published two late editions in 1752 and 1799.

W. Shirley. Early Printed Maps of the British Isles, 1477 - 1650, no 374. Scarce. The map was first published in 1604 by Pieter Van den Keere. Its outline is closely modelled on Ortelius's map of 1570 but the map is considerably more decorative. Jansson acquired Van den Keere's plates in 1621 and re-issued the map with his imprint and a new date.
