Brass Worksplate Rebuilt By W.G. Bagnall Ltd Stafford Year 1955, Order Number 6747. Measures just 4.5in x 2.5in. Records show that the order number originated from the War Department Services for the overhaul of ex USATC Alco S160 2-8-0 No 71512 of 1944, MAJOR GENERAL CARL R GRAY Jr, WD700, at a cost of £7,642. It came from and went to Longmoor Camp Hampshire. Interestingly, the loco came with no drawings so numerous photographs were taken during dismantling so it would be known how to reassemble. There are some fine photographs on the internet of this very loco at https://www.railalbum.co.uk/steam-locomotives/usatc-s160-1.htm. From the collection of the late Major John David Pierrepoint Poyntz.
