April 1831' [Richard Harrison] on the right, illustrated as plate 10 in Bury's Hexandrian Plants, 52.2 x 39.9 cm; Amaryllis Picta, inscribed bottom left 'picture by Priscilla Bury' and on the right 'Richard Harrison's Esq. 16th April 1829', reproduced as plate 5 in 'A Selection of Hexandrian Plants', 54.5 x 41.7 cm. watercolour (3) Provenance: Private Collection, Hertfordshire For a comparable example bearing Priscilla Bury's handwriting, see one of the watercolours preserved at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Zephyranthes - some chipping to the paper surface, especially on reverse, some spotting and discolouration to the paper, crinking along the edges; Pancratium - some foxing and spotting, slight crease along the bottom edge; Amaryllis Picta - vertical fold crease to both sides, discolouration to the paper, tear to the top edge, slight insect damage to central bulb area, some rippling to the right edge.

English School (19th Century) Studies of Napoleon Bonaparte, in profile, one of Napoleon seated on a cannon, wearing his green Chasseurs coat, braided in red inscribed with title pen, ink and watercolour, unframed, 21 x 17cm and 16 x 13cm (2) A similar study of Napoleon standing at the canon can be found in the journal of John R. Glover, Secretary to Admiral Cockburn, which is after an original watercolour by Denzil Ibbetson, depicting Napoleon leaning against a cannon onboard the ship taking him to the island of St. Helena in 1815 following his second abdication. A manuscript of Glover's journal was sold at Bonhams, November 2009. Both unframed - the smaller one has a torn and missing upper right-hand corner and has a black spot along the bottom edge. The cannon one has creased paper.

Robert Alexander Hillingford (British, 1828-1904) A Cavalier on a chestnut horse being ambushed by Roundheads signed lower left "R A Hillingford" oil on canvas 44 x 59cm (17 x 23in) Provenance: From a Suffolk country house Other Notes: Robert Hillingford was famous for his historical and genre scenes. He was born in London on 28 January 1828, and studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf for five years, beginning in 1841. He is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. He then travelled to Munich, Rome, Florence and Naples, where he married and worked for several years, producing paintings of Italian life. One painting from this period entitled, The Last Evening of the Carnival, was exhibited at St. Petersburg in 1859. He returned to London in 1864 and first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1866; it was at this time that he began to work on historical subjects, especially of the Napoleonic Wars. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, British Institution and at other galleries. While he was attracted to costume pieces such as, An incident in the early life of Louis XIV and During the wanderings of Charles Edward Stuart, he also painted some contemporary military scenes, including his 1901 RA painting South Africa, 1901 - The Dawn of Peace. Lined canvas. Paint layer is in stable condition. Areas of retouching which are well matched to the original. Frame is in good condition.

In 1884 he served in the Zhob Valley expedition and the following year was seconded to the Bombay Staff Corps. In 1919 he was invested with the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire for Meritorious Services in connection with the war in India, and retired in 1921.
