A taxidermy collection of stuffed and mounted birds, various, by Sheals of Belfast including Dipper (Male) inscribed "January 6 1908 Mr R Beckett Co. Antrim", Common Tern (Male) inscribed to base ".... Strangford Co. Down May 1905 Mr Beckett", Pied Blackbird (Male) inscribed to base "March 1909 Mr Beckett Re-mounted from a batched job", Golden Eye, Magpie, Kingfisher, Blue Tit and Goldcrest (8) CONDITION REPORTS Magpie has a bald area to the underside of the wing - possible insect damage. There is a crack to the branch that the magpie is sitting on- has possibly been re-glued. Kingfisher is very faded to one side and on the same side, part of the wing skeleton is exposed and there are some other areas of damage - possibly by insects - around it's face / eye area. The red-painted highlights to the beak and claws are flaking. Blue Tit - there is flaking / possible crack to the supporting branch. One of it's back claws is missing. The Dipper is missing two claws to one foot and has some cracking / flaking to the lower section of the beak. All items have general wear and tear conducive with age and use to include ruffled feathers - some discoloured variously through sunlight exposure, etc. There are white loose dots on all - unknown if this is insect damage or dust. A black silk side saddle hat, bears inscription to the interior "R Stonehouse & Co, the Head Hatters West Hartlepool", together with a Dunn & Co. Hat Makers hat box CONDITION REPORTS The stitching is coming away from the leather band internally. There is discolouration and staining to the silk internally. There is wear to the edges of the silk on the top especially. Generally in need of a clean. The box has heavy water damage and rips throughout as well as being written on in various places. Both have wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for further details. Hat measures approx 20 cm front to back and 15.5 cm side to side, 53.3 cm internal circumference.
AFTER RICHARD JAMES "Coursing", coloured engraving by Charles Turner, published London 1821 by R Ackermann, script added by hand CONDITION REPORTS It is definitely James and not Jones written on the mount. Image has foxing and discolouration and appears to have been cleaned at some point. There are several surface scratches, the plate measures approx 33.5 cm x 45.6 cm and including frame measures 56.5 cm x 67 cm. The frame has knocks and splits and chunks missing throughout. Heavy wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for further details
A taxidermy stuffed and mounted Eel, in naturalistic setting and verre eglomise bow-fronted display case, bearing label inscribed "Eel caught by John Roper R Avon 1st Sept 1938 3lb 4oz" CONDITION REPORTS Paintwork is worn in various places and there are some cracks and chipping to the case throughout. Has possibly been re-taped at some point. Background has various dark spots, etc. Fish itself has flaking to the paintwork and the area around the fin looks a little strange - unsure if this is a repair or done at the time of casing? See image for more details. General wear and tear to include dirt, dust, surface scratches to the gilding and paintwork, etc - all conducive with age and use - see images for more details.

Hein to authenticate that this is a piece of the original carpet that was imported from France and laid in 1947 when the new Surf was opened, later sold by public auction at the Surf Ballroom, 3rd February 1990

Great War Air Force Cross (AFC) Group of Four Medals. Awarded to Air Commodore Cresswell Turner AFC. Comprising: Air Force Cross 'CAPT CRESSWELL TURNER R.A.F. BUCKINGHAM PALACE AUG. 2ND 1919' (Privatley engraved), 1914/15 Star, '2. LIEUT C. TURNER WORC R', British War Medal, Victory Medal, 'CAPT RFC'. The group remains mounted as originally worn. ... Accompanied by a pair of WW2 period Canadian made RAF flat pilots wings.Air Commodore Cresswell Turner AFC was born in 1896 and after attending Sandhurst was commissioned into the 1st Bn Worcestershire Regiment in August 1915. Transferring to the Royal Flying Corps he flew as an Observer before undergoing Pilot Training he is then noted as been posted to 32 Squadron at that time flying the DH5 on ground attack missions, the Squadron would later convert to the SE5 fighter. At some time in 1918 he posted to the Instrument Design Establishment which was based at Biggin Hill, it is believed that his work here resulted in the award of the Air Force Cross, which was announced in the London Gazette on the 11th February 1919. In August 1919 he was granted a permanent commission in the RAF and in 1920 was posted as a pilot to 210 Squadron. In 1923 he was serving in Iraq as a Technical Officer. The 1930’s would see him moving to the Engineering Branch of the RAF and in 1938 with the rank of Group Captain he was serving as Senior Engineering Officer HQ Maintenance Command. He was promoted to Acting Air Commodore on the 1st December 1941 and in 1942 was SASO HQ Technical Training Command. He retired with this rank in May 1944. He died on the 19th October 1951.
