After Charles Robinson Sykes: a Rolls Royce Phantom 'Spirit of Ecstasy' car radiator mascot, circa 1929, solid nickel, indistinctly inscribed to base R R Ltd, cast marks under wings 'Trade Mark Reg, Reg US Pat Off', figure 13cms high, on radiator cap plinth and turned mahogany box base, 18cms high overall. Note: The majority of Phantom I mascots are marked Rolls-Royce Ltd Feb 6 1911, but in 1929 when the Phantom II was introduced the shape of the base, on all mascots, and the lettering around it changed to R R Ltd 6-2-11.
A large Charles II leaded bronze skillet, by Thomas Sturton II (c.1629-1682), South Petherton, SomersetOf typical form, the handle with rubbed lettering and heart devices and the body with 'T' and pointed quatrefoil scratchmarks, raised on three reeded legs, 12.5cm high, 19cm rim diameter, 18cm high to tip of handle; together with two similar large skillets, both with handles inscribed 'JOHN FATHERS' the first with lettering spaced by a pointed trefoil, 13.5cm high, 19.5 rim diameter, 13.5cm high too tip of handle, the second with saltire, pointed trefoil and heart motifs to the handle, 13.5cm high, 18cm rim diameter, 15cm high to tip of handle (3)Footnotes:See R. A rare Henry VIII pewter lidded measureCirca 1540 The central shallow dome of the 'flat' lid stamped with initials, a plume-shell thumbpiece and raised wedge, waisted-baluster body with incised line decoration, single strap handle, 10cm wide, 14cm deep, 18cm high (3 1/2in wide, 5 1/2in deep, 7in high) Footnotes:An almost identical lidded measure was discovered in the wreck of the Mary Rose, which sank in 1545, off the coast of Portsmouth. It was found on the main deck and measures 15cm high. It also has the stamped initials 'R' or 'BWE' on the lid, which again appear on items found in the Surgeon's cabin.
