The sitter was born in 1733, the daughter of James Summers of Fillingham, Lincolnshire. She married Sir Cecil Wray Bt. (1734-1805) of Fillingham, who built for her the splendid 'Gothick' Castle at Fillingham to the designs of John Carr of Doncaster. Lady Wray died in 1825 aged 88. Sittings to the artist are recorded in April 1767, and the entry in the artist's ledger notes a payment of 35gns. CONDITION REPORT: She has a pallid complexion. Extensive repainting- most noticeable on face, especially lower part and neck, continues down chest and dress. Also, evident to background- viewing recommended.
CROWNING GLORY The Stratton Collection of Royal Commemorative Mugs This collection of British souvenir mugs ranges from the reign of George III, through his appalling son, 'Prinny', later George IV, to the long reign of Victoria with three commemorating her Coronation. The transfer-printed portraits, mostly Staffordshire but including rare Worcester examples, include various mugs from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's long reign. GEORGE III A Worcester bell-shaped Mug, c.1758, with three transfer prints in black and the initials R I and Liberty beneath military trophies and a crown flanked by George III and sailing ships, 14.5cm Apparently the first royal commemorative on porcelain. CONDITION REPORT: Wear to body, scratches to decoration. Minor nibbles to top rim. Surface scratching to body.

This subject is from a picture by William Redmore Bigg RA. The well known etching of this would have been sent to China and copied. CONDITION REPORT: Some deterioration to paint, for example on boy's red coat, around girls' faces and on window. Loose in frame and slightly bowed. Please see images (available upon request).
DON SOMMER REPRODUCTION OF CADILLAC MASCOTDon Sommer reproduction 1933 - 1936 Cadillac Goddess mascot. Unlike her older sister, this goddess is absolutely streamlined. Compare her to the goddess that adorned the 1930-1932 Cadillac, also in this collection. Her shorter hair and simpler dress give little resistance as her motion sweeps them back. Designed by C. J. Klein and J. R. Morga, this mascot was presented on V-12 and V-16 models, or by special order on the V-8. Measures 8 12" height x 3" width x 6 3/8" length (21.6cm x 7.6cm x 16.1cm). Total weight of 1501 grams.
