Crisp details to the blade amid foiliage designs, complete with a steel scabbard.

AN R N R OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD. A Royal Naval Reserve officers sword and scabbard, with imperial crown and R N R in the guard. The blade with Imperial crown and Dieu et Mon Droit amid foiliage, is some 31.1/2" in length. It appears to have been repaired at some time, by brazing around two thirds along its length. Traces of the maker or suppliers name remain, the scabbard of brass mounts and leather.

GT WAR RFC/RAF DIARY etc The diary from October 1917 of Boy later 2nd AM R J Mines, also Service Documents and Education passes etc. Reginald John Hines hailed from Frome in Somerset. Enlisting in the Royal Flying Corps in October 1917. He passed his 3rd Class Certificate of Education in October 1918. Transferring to the RAF in April 1918. His Diary shows his enlistment at Taunton Barracks on the 8th October 1917, he was posted to various posts, for training drills. During a stop over at Kings Cross Station (train to Scotland) he heard the Air Raid Siren, causing a four hour delay. He tells of his service and later post war service, in India etc.

AN INDIA G-SERVICE MEDAL TO AN OFFICER 1st MADRAS LANCERS. An Indian General Service Medal 1854 with bar Burma 1887-89, named to Lieut R de L Faunce. 1st Madras Lancers. Robert de Launa Faunce was commissioned into the Oxford Light Infantry, 17th September 1887. Transferring to the Indian Army he was awarded the medal and clasp for the Burma Expedition 1887-89. He was Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette on the 15th November 1889. Att 2nd Battn U B T Orderly Officer. Promoted Lt 27/8/1889 Cpt 17/9/1898 Mjr 13/5/1905 Lt Col 1/2/1915 Retiring from the Indian Army in the early 1920's, he resided at Rudcroft. Burgess Hill, Sussex. He died aged 78 on the 18th June 1945, leaving some £2554 of effects to his wife Katherine Mary Faunce. See Illustration

A native of Budleigh Salterton in Devon. Gnr Henry F Keeping entitled to a pair. 2/Lt Robert Henry Pocklington RE is entitled to a pair. 18825 Cpl Frederick Harold Manley of the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, KIA 27/11/1917 (Cambrai). Aged 23 years, the son of James and Edith Manley of Fore Street, Colyton, Devon. Remembered on the Cambrai Memorial , Louverval. He served in France from 16/2/1915. Entitled to a 1914/15 Star & Victory Medal. 2188 Cpl C Kievill Royal Devon Yeomanry was discharged Medically Unfit and awarded a SWB C1/126 in May 1916 204667 Pte William A Smith 1st battalion London Regt was discharged with a SWB List TP/2711, he enlisted on the 8/12/1915 Entitled to a 1914/15 Star & Victory Medal.

AN MBE-QSA-PAIR-LSGC-RVM R HORSE GUARDS GROUP OF MEDALS. MBE (Military), Queens South Africa Medal with bars Cape Colony- Orange Free State-Diamond Hill and Wittebergen. Named to 199 Cor'l of H F Lewis R H Gds. British war & Victory Medals named to Lieut F Lewis. A Long Service Good Conduct Medal (George V) named to GS-7801 Sjt F Lewis 1/Res R OF Cavalry. A Medal of the Victorian Order with engraved naming Cor'l of H F Lewis R H Gds. Frederick Lewis a career soldier who enlisted in the Royal Horse Guards on the 29th March 1890. He served until 1906 when he retired after 16 years service with the Royal Horse Guards. It was during this time he was promoted to the rank of Corporal of Horse, on the 20th December 1898. A rank unique to the Royal Horse Guards. On his enlistment he was 19 years of age and lived at that time in Redditch , Worcestershire. In 1900 he was re-engaged at Windsor for the Household Cavalry, which as a composite Regiment served in the Boer War. ( In such time he will complete a total of 21 years service) Corporal of Horse 18/3/1900. In April 1904 he was promoted to Sqdn Q-Master Corporal. The rank he was discharged with in June 1906. His South African War Medal is confirmed with the bar entitlement, on all medal rolls and copied certificates of service. (Served 293 days in South Africa) Upon his return to England he was present at Queen Victoria's Funeral as part of the official body. Awarded the Royal Victorian Medal 18/3/1901. He married Victoria Maud Bull at Knightsbridge in 1900, they had one daughter in 1913 Doris Emily. In September 1914 he volunteered for service and was posted to the 1st Reserve Regiment of Cavalry. He was then attached to the Leicestershire Yeomanry, until he was commissioned into the Army Service Corps, with the rank of 2/Lt. The unit with which he served in Salonika until 1919. He was awarded the MBE in the London Gazette 1st January 1919. Lieut Frederick Lewis RASC. A copy of his letter written to Col G I Fitzgerald CVO regarding his Long Service Good Conduct Medal and possibility of a pension being due. Sir, Knowing you have the interest of any old blue at heart I am sure you will pardon the liberty I am taking in writing to you on such a subject. It is reference to my obtaining a pension and G C medal. I had the honour to serve the whole of my service in the Royal Horse Guards with you. 16 years and 99 days, it has been suggested to me that my claim to pension should start from there. I have now completed 21 years mobilized service as ref A O attached. I do not think there should difficulty in my obtaining the above. My case is quite similar to Cpl of Horse Daniels who I believe through your influence obtained his. I tried to rejoin the blues on the outbreak of war, no authority had then been received to take anyone back. I then enlisted in the 1st Cavalry Reserve Regt Aldershot. From them I was att to 2/1st Leicestershire Yeomanry. I received a commission on the 10th October 1916. I have served in Salonica & Palestine I am now serving in the L C Record Office , Nottingham, asking your advice & assistance. I have the honour to be your obedient Servant Lieut F Lewis RASC (199) 80 Queens Walk, Nottingham. (5/6/1919) Sold with a miniature of Lt Lewis and his daughter, his various cloth badges and leather epaulettes. The latter officially named to Capt C L B Gillespie RE (stamped Replacement). A miniature CBE, Defence & War Medals, GSM bar Palestine 1945-48, the four mounted for wear. Colin Leonard Beauchamp Gillespie was born on the 10th May 1925. Served in the Ranks for 1 year 105 days. Emergency Commission, later a Regular Officer He also served in the War Office during his career. 2/Lt Royal Engineers 10/5/1944' Lt R E 1/11/1947. A Capt 29/10/1947. Capt 10/5/1954. Major 10/5/59. MBE. Retired 26/5/1971. His MBE was a Military Award, the CBE miniature is a Civil Award.

A FRAMED GT WAR TRIO & PLAQUE (S Lancs Regt) A 1914/15 Star named to 19429 Pte T O'Hara S Lancs R. (Note 'T' not 'J' though the service number and all other details are correct) British War & Victory Medals named to 19429 Pte J O'Hara S. Lancs R. A Memorial Plaque named to John O'Hara. John O'Hara 6th Battalion the South Lancashire Regiment was Killed in Action on the 15th January 1917 in Mesopotamia. He is commemorated on Panel 23 on the Basra Memorial. Aged 24 he was the son of Joseph & Betsy O'Hara of 16 Bonny Street, Liverpool. He was born in Preston, Lancashire in 1893 and was residing in Blackpool when he enlisted. Pte O'Hara served in Theatre of War 2b (Balkans) from the 1st July 1915. The 6th Battalion landed at Gallipoli on the 7th July 1915 at Cape Helles. Earlier the next month they were also landed at Anzac Beach on the 4th August. Evacuated in December 1915 it was from February 1916 onwards the Battalion served in Mesopotamia.

A FOUR BAR QSA MEDAL TO THE Rl DUBLIN FUSILIERS. Named to 4401 Pte J O'Brien Rl Dublin Fus with bars Cape Colony-Orange Free State-Relief of Ladysmith and Transvaal. Pte O'Brien was invalided home from the war on the 2nd April 1902. He had previously served during the Mashonaland Campaign in which has name was on the roll for the award of a medal and clasp 1896. In this campaign he was seconded whilst serving in the Mounted Infantry. 4401 (Pte J O'Brien R Dub Fus) He is also on the roll for the Kings South Africa Medal with 1901 and 1902 bars. Again number 4401 Pte J O'Brien R Dub Fus.

Battery Quartermaster Sergeant A E Pearce was awarded a Meritorius Service Medal with annuity on the 2nd October 1946.

A 1939/45-Atlantic & Africa Stars, (bar North Africa 1942-43), Defence & War Medals unnamed as issued, Korea Medal named to D/JX 135455 G Williams C Y S RN. also a UN Korea Medal. A (GV1) Royal Navy Long Service Good Conduct Medal named to JX.135455 G Williams. Y.S. HMS Devonshire. Two original Wound or Hurt certificates, Life Saving Society certificates etc Gwilliam Williams joined the Royal Navy as a boy in 1931. He swerved until April 1957, 22 years or more certificate present. One certificate confirms service on HMS Mercury. HMS Devonshire a Cruiser of 9750 Tons, who took part in actions all over the globe. In November 1941 she sank the German Raider Atlantis, working with her Walrus Aircraft. Yeoman of Signals on his LSGC, Chief Yeoman of Signals on his Korea Medal.

A 15th YEOMANRY BATTALION HAMPSHIRE REGT MC TRIO. A 1914/15 Star Trio named to 2/Lt H R Reynolds ASC on the Star, Capt H R Reynolds on the pair. WW2 Defence medal in box of issue, addressed to Mr H R Reynolds, The Old Rectory, Fyfield. Andover, Hants. Issued in 1948 with the stamp of Territorial & Auxilary Forces of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. A member of the Hampshire Homeguard, most likely in Andover. Also a 1937 Coronation Medal, unnamed as issued. A cased Small Bore Rifle Association Distinguished Members named medal, with a further five years bar. The son of the Reverend E K R Reynolds of Fifield, Nr Andover. Henry Robert Reynolds was born on the 14th April 1889 in Hampshire, he was educated at Marlborough & Keeble Colleges. It was at the latter he studied for and passed his BA. Commissioned a 2/Lt into the Army Service Corps, he was promoted Lieutenant in 1915. In 1918 he was attached to the 15th (Yeomanry) Battalion of the Hampshire Regt, It was whilst serving as an Acting Captain in this battalion he was awarded a Military Cross. The award appeared in the London Gazette issue date 08/03/1919. 3425. His citation appeared in the London Gazette dated 3/10/1919 issue 31583. With reference to the Awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette dated the 8th March 1919, the following are the statements of services for which the awards were conferred. A Cpt H R Reynolds; On the 21st October,1918, at the Canal at Knokke, he displayed great courage and initiative while in command of a platoon on the flank of his company. Under his leadership the Platoon fearlessly rushed several strongpoints in spite of heavy rifle and machine gun fire, which enabled the whole company to advance. A Teacher by profession he was educated at Marlboro and Keeble Colleges, and was at one time at Westbourne House School , Folkestone C1912. Then Moorland House, Heswall C1920. Guildford in 1923 and thence Headmaster of Brandon House, Cheltenham. Henry never lost his love of shooting, winning awards for his efforts. He died in Fifield on the 12th July 1957, aged 67. AN R A M C GROUP OF FOUR MEDALS. A Queens South Africa Medal with bars Natal and Transvaal, named to 12775 Pte H C Prett RAMC. British War & Victory Medals named to 12775 W O Cl 1 H C Prett RAMC. George V Long Service Good Conduct Medal named to 12775 S Sjt H C Prett RAMC. Herbert Charles Prett enlisted in 1899, serving in the South African War (Medal with two clasps) He was also awarded the Kings South Africa Medal with two clasps. He is entitled to a 1914 Star serving in France from 10/8/1914. Details from Southampton Roll in the Gt War. He enlisted in 1899 and served through the South African Campaign. On the outbreak of war in August 1914 he was sent to the Western Front. There he took an active part in important engagements on various sectors and rendered valuable services until the cessation of hostilities. Still with the RAMC as a S-Major in 1920, his address was 15 Peterborough Rd, Southampton. He later served with His Majestys Custom & Excise as a Waterguard Officer. He died in 1951. A Territorial Gunner he landed in France 4th October 1915. The Silver Wound Badge with the Trio number 379543 was issued to 43619 Herbert Ashley Robins RA. (14 AFA Brigade) Enlisted October 1914 and Discharged (Wounds) 31-7-1918.

Named to 7592 Pte A V Norton Bedford Regt. British War & VIctory Medals named to 114613 Pte A V Norton MGC. Also an Ancient Order of Foresters Masonic Award. Inscribed on the reverse, Court Energy 6870 presented to Bro A V Norton for obtaining New Members 1905. A Masonic? Volunteers War Service Award, for South Africa. Ornate bars read For Special War Services, Court Energy no 6870. From Essendon Hertfield Herts . His Military Medal was in the London Gazette of the 29th August 1918. An original copy of the award reads: C Coy 18th Battalion M.G.C. BEF. 'Pte A V Norton 114613 has been awarded the Military Medal for Bravery and Devotion to Duty 23rd March 1918. Whilst at Friers Wood he alone manned a machine gun in an advanced position for six hours, giving invaluable help to the troops he was covering and preventing the enemy from advancing under cover of the wood. During the whole of this time he set a splendid example of disregard fro danger under heavy shellfire until wounded. H W Burdin OC 'B'[ Section. An original Newspaper cutting repeats these detail but also adds this. 'Essendon'.M.M for Pte Norton. A report has been received from the OC 18th Battn MGC, that Pte Norton has been awarded the Military Medal and Parchment. Pte Norton served in the South Africa War with the 1st herts Volunteers, this is the second time he has been wounded. A 1923 dated letter from the French Military Attache states. Your letter has been communicated to me by the Ambassador to ascertain it would not be possible to do anything in order to reward your gallant conduct while you were assisting French Troops on the 23rd March 1918. I should have been glad to recommend you for a Croix de Guerre, but an agreement between our governments was stopped some time ago, etc. Born in September 1879, he died the 14th September 1941 in Hertfordshire. A mounted 1914 Star Trio named to his brother 17165 Spr F T Norton RE. Frederick Thomas Norton served in France from the 15th August 1914, discharged with a Silver Wound Badge. He was ruled ineligible for the under fire clasp. Proceeding abroad with the 8th Railway Company Royal Engineers he was invalided home 27th November 1914. Discharged his form marked Reliable. A framed original parchment 4" x 6.1/2" reads thus. No 114613 Pte A V Norton 18th Battn Machine Gun Corps. 'I have read with great pleasure the reoprt of your Regimental Commander and Brigade Commander Regarding Your Gallant Conduct and Devotion to Duty on 23rd March 1918.
