Congo" to England, rated "8d" and "2d" in red crayon and bearing 1884-91 2d. slate (5) cancelled "556" and with Cape Coast c.d.s. (Type 2) and "R" in oval h.s., all in the same colour blue ink, Liverpool Registered oval d.s. (2.11), arrival c.d.s. (3.11) on reverse; small imperfections though attractive. Gold Coast1897 (9 Aug.) Ackerman envelope registered from Elmina to England, bearing 1884-91 2½d. ultramarine and orange pair each cancelled with "elmina/gold coast" Code C c.d.s. (Type 5) with a further strike alongside, and 2d. grey (to pay the registration fee, presumably sent down with the letter, there being no full provision for registration at Elmina) cancelled with "cape coast/gold coast" c.d.s. (Type 5), showing "R" in oval h.s. and Liverpool Registered oval d.s. (3.9), the reverse with Cape Coast double-ring d.s. (Type 6, 10.8) and Bletchley Station c.d.s. (3.9). Unusual. S.G. 13, 14. OHMS Avis de Reception envelope (225x95mm.) registered from the Post Office to England, bearing 1884-86 ½d. dull green (13) and 1d. rose-carmine blocks of four (2, both on reverse) all cancelled with oval of bars, showing boxed "a.r" followed by "41", both in red crayon, and "R" in oval on face, despatch and Hull arrival c.d.s. (17.12) on reverse; the ½d values apparently applied with local gum and with some faults/defects, nevertheless an unusual 2oz. franking comprising 10d. postage, 2d. registration and 2½d. An extremely large and unusual half-cylinder shaped duplex pendulum/croquet-style putter – with matching lead faces, retained by six brass dowels c/w full brass sole plate, the head is stamped either side of the shaft W. Denford and stamped to the head with the letters P – R – R – S c/w the original leather grip. Head measure approx 3.5x3.5”
