Rodrigue, George: (New Iberia 1944 - 2013 Houston). Mirror Image. Öl auf Leinwand. Sign., nicht dat. (um 1995). 60,8 x 51 cm. Gerahmt. Zwei Hunde unter einem mit Flechten verhangenen Baum, wie er für die amerikanischen Südstaaten charakteristisch ist. So kurz könnte die Beschreibung sein, wären da nicht die gelben Augen der Hunde, einer davon sogar mit blauem Fell, die einen in das Bild saugen. Der Louisianer Rodrigue äußerte dazu in einem Interview mit der New York Times 1998, daß diese gelben Augen die Seele des Hundes sind. Sie drücken ein Verlangen nach Liebe und Antworten aus. Antworten auf die große Frage des Seins. Warum sind wir hier? Die Antwort wissen beide Seiten, Mensch und Hund, nicht. - Rodrigue erhielt seine Ausbildung an der University of Louisiana at Lafayette und am Art Center College of Design im kalifornischen Pasadena. Ab den 1960er Jahren gelangte er schnell zu Bekanntheit mit seinen Landschaften und Familienbildern aus seinem Heimatstaat Louisiana. Weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte er aber mit seiner "Blue dog"-Serie, aus der auch unser Gemälde stammt. Inspiration hierfür fand er in dem aus den Cajun-Gespenstergeschichten stammenden "loup-garou" (Werwolf), doch als Vorlage für den markant gefärbten Hund mit den besonderen Augen diente dem Künstler seine Terrierhündin Tiffany. - Verso mit Werknummer 9452 und auf dem Keilrahmen mit Stempel der Galerie. - Minimal angestaubt. - Oil on canvas. Stamen and Cynthia Volk with Yibin Ni (2017), A Culture Revealed: Kangxi-Era Chinese Porcelain from the Jie Rui Tang Collection, pp. 30-33.- Emperor Yang of the Sui dynasty (éš‹ç‚€å¸, r. 606-18) is known for many achievements, such as linking the Yellow and Yangzi Rivers with the man-made Grand Canal, leading successful military campaigns expanding the Sui territory, and being accomplished in the arts. Despite those, Emperor Yang is also considered to have brought disaster to the country and misery to the people late in his life with his unwise rule and decadent and debauched lifestyle with his concubines. In the West Park, outside Luoyang, his consorts (wives who ranked lower than his primary wife, the empress) often organised his concubines to do equestrian performances and variety shows to entertain the emperor and please his inflated ego. One of the best known of these vignettes was the procession of Lady Wang Zhaojun (王æ˜å›, c. 52 – c. 15 BCE) in a moonlit night. (Lady Wang Zhaojun was one of the legendary Four Beauties of Ancient China. She had been in the harem of Emperor Yuan of the Western Han dynasty [汉元å¸, 206 BCE – 8 CE]. He eventually sent her off by horseback in a procession to marry a Central Asian tribal chieftain.) The elderly Emperor Yang is often depicted enthusiastically observing his elegant court ladies showing off their riding skills in the spirit of Lady Wang, while anticipating further antics to follow. This scene has often been mistaken as ‘female generals of the Yang family’(æ¨é—¨å¥³å°†) by many art historians. However, Dr Yibin Ni has found that historical woodblock illustrations such as that of the novel Romance of Sui and Tang (éš‹å”演义), and New-Year prints such as Wang Zhaojun’s Galloping Horses (新彩æ˜å›è·‘马) bear similar scenes with clear written titles which reveal that the scene is actually meant to be a cautionary tale for rulers. Chu Renhuo (褚人获)’s Romance of Sui and Tang fictionalises the historical events leading to the fall of the Sui dynasty and the subsequent rise of the Tang. JAMES WHITELAW HAMILTON RSA RSW (SCOTTISH 1860 - 1932), WESTMORLAND oil on canvas, signed, titled label versoframedimage size 56cm x 69cm, overall size 78cm x 92cm Labels verso: T. &. R. Annan & Sons, Ltd., Glasgow.Note: James Whitelaw Hamilton was born on 26 November 1860, the eldest child to wood turner James Hamilton and his wife Mary Stevenson of 1 Morris Place Glasgow. His parents moved the family to Helensburgh and lived at Thornton Lodge, 107 Sinclair Street, Helensburgh. Whitelaw Hamilton displayed an aptitude for painting at an early age, and after studying in Glasgow, he moved to Paris and studied at the studios of Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret and Aimé Morot, both considered leading lights of the 19th Century French Movement - specialising in landscapes and portraiture. Whitelaw Hamilton's landscapes have a rugged and raw quality but he did not limit his work to one medium being equally successful using oils, pastels and watercolours. Not surprisingly, given Helensburgh's reputation as a centre for artists, Whitelaw Hamilton became friends with the Glasgow Boys. In 1884, he joined Guthrie, Henry, Crawhall and Melville at Cockburnspath. EA Walton, who spent his winters at Thornton Lodge, and James Guthrie were to remain friends with Whitelaw Hamilton throughout their lives. They shared similar ideals and spent many years in Helensburgh recording the urban lifestyle of the wealthy residents in the town. Whitelaw Hamilton married Lillian Millar Shaw of 12 Lynedoch Place, Glasgow at St Mary's Episcopal Church on 9 September 1891. He and Lillian took residence in the Grange, 23 Suffolk Street, Helensburgh, the home that he was to remain in for the rest of his life. Whitelaw Hamilton exhibited abroad as often as he did at home. He became a member of the Munich Secession and won a gold medal at the Munich International Exhibition in 1897. He became a member of the New English Art Club in 1887, a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1922 and a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1895. He also held the position of Hon. Secretary, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. He suffered personal loss in 1918, when his son Lt. Arthur Leslie Hamilton was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 25 October, serving with the 1st Highland Light Infantry. A portrait of his son was completed by James Guthrie and is held within the collection of the Glasgow Art Gallery. James Whitelaw Hamilton died in Helensburgh on 16 September 1932 aged 71. His work is represented in Glasgow Art Gallery, Perth Art Gallery, City of Edinburgh Collection, Lillie Art Gallery, The Hunterian, Perth & Kinross Council, Kirkcaldy Museums & Galleries, Paisley Museum & Art Galleries, Dundee Art Gallery, Kelvingrove, The Royal Scottish Academy, Walker Art Gallery, Weimar Art Gallery in Germany and other public collections.

Vous êtes aussi fou que l'ange de lumière, mais avec tellement plus de goût !'.- 4 septembre 1964 : 'L'hermaphrodite est un de nos rêves préférés, à Marayat et moi, incarnation de la bisexualité que nous adorons et pratiquons... '- Décembre : Marayat envoie ses gants à Molinier 'Ils se sont usés de s'être frottés à sa peau. Je vous les envoie pour que vous les frottiez à la vôtre'. SEATO, PO Box 517, Bangkok'.- 31 janvier 1966 : Louis-Jacques suggère à Molinier une idée de tableau susceptible d'enchanter Marayat : 'Elle aimerait que vous la peigniez pénétrée par trois hommes à la fois, mais surtout suçant avec adoration une queue très grosse », etc.- 6 mars 1966 : pli dactylographié en rouge, signé L-J, décrit leur intérieur, 'un vrai musée Molinier'.- 11 juin 1966 : pli dactylographié sans adresse d'expéditeur, signé L.J. Parle de leur grand ami diplomate, Philippe Baude, 'l'homme qui a le plus baisé Marayat dans sa vie : au moins deux fois par jour tous les jours pendant trois ans ... une fois dans le vagin, une fois dans la bouche, une fois dans l'anus ...
