Noel M F Corbett, R N (born 1887) Two Midshipman`s Naval Logs, compiled from 1904 to 1906, whilst serving aboard HMS Terrible, Leviathan, Ocean, Goliath and Hibernia, all in a neat hand with many good and detailed illustrations and charts in pen, ink and watercolour. The first log records voyages to foreign ports including Singapore, Ceylon, Hong Kong and the China Station; the second log mainly records voyages in British waters. Corbett has inserted many good sectional diagrams of the ships, armaments and technical equipment. Corbett was a published poet, and also included is his note book with his draft verses, showing corrections and changes. Poems include `The Old Cruiser`, `Stokers`, `Convoy`, and `To a Plum Duff`. Noel Corbett eventually rose to the rank of Captain, having been awarded the Sea Gallantry Medal in 1911 for rescuing a seaman washed overboard from the foundering SS Delhi. In 1927 Corbett was part of a Government panel at a conference at the Admiralty on Irish Free State Coastal Defence. The lot also includes another note book in poor condition, and a copy of his Poems `A Naval Motley` published in 1916. The Logbooks are in need of some repair to the bindings
